The expert will be responsible for assessing the current state of plastic recycling in the region, identifying gaps, and proposing strategies to integrate these organizations effectively into the recycling process. This role requires a deep understanding of both the environmental impacts of plastic waste and the socio-economic dynamics of community organizations. The expert will also be tasked with developing training materials and conducting workshops to empower these organizations, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to engage in sustainable practices. The assignment is deliverable-based, spanning up to 55 working days over a period of 5 months, and requires a commitment to achieving measurable outcomes in the integration of community-based organizations into the recycling framework.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, waste management, or a related field. A proven track record of working with community-based organizations, particularly in the context of environmental sustainability, is essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Experience in project management and familiarity with the UNDP procurement processes will be advantageous. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment.
Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Sustainable Development, or a related field is required. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree combined with extensive relevant experience may also be considered. Specialized training or certifications in plastic recycling or community engagement will be viewed favorably.
Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of professional experience in environmental management, waste recycling, or community development. Experience working in the Middle East, particularly in Jordan, will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manage projects and work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community groups.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local community organizations and stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly if relevant to the local context.
Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of up to 5 months. The work is expected to be full-time, with deliverable-based payments made upon completion of agreed milestones.
