The Agricultural Assistant role at DRC Uganda is pivotal for the successful implementation of the Food Systems and Economic Self-Reliance Project. This position is contingent upon securing funding and involves working closely with community members in the districts of Obongi, Moyo, Yumbe, Koboko, Madi Okollo, and Terego. The Agricultural Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the appropriateness and quality of agricultural practices, particularly focusing on Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA). This includes training community Farmer Groups and Project Management Committees, mobilizing communities, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The role requires a proactive approach to community engagement and environmental awareness, aiming to enhance security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security and resilience among vulnerable populations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Agricultural Assistant will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to: mobilizing communities and identifying target participants for project activities, conducting technical training on climate-smart agriculture practices, establishing community gardens, and supporting farmer groups in food security initiatives. The role also involves acting as a liaison between the project and community stakeholders, facilitating communication, and fostering trust. Additionally, the Agricultural Assistant will promote environmentally friendly practices, assist in project input distribution, and participate in monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure project objectives are met. Regular reporting and collaboration with local leaders and stakeholders are also key responsibilities of this position.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Environmental Science, Community Development, or related fields. Required qualifications include experience working with refugees and host communities, community mobilization for participatory activities, and implementation of ecosystem restoration projects. Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and demonstrate practical skills. Knowledge of local market systems, climate-smart agriculture, and gender inclusion is also necessary. A valid motorcycle riding license and competent riding skills are required for this role.
Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in relevant fields such as Environmental Science or Community Development. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of agricultural practices, community engagement, and environmental sustainability. Candidates should have a solid foundation in these areas to effectively contribute to the project’s goals and objectives.
Experience:
The Agricultural Assistant should have at least 2 years of practical field experience in community mobilization and project implementation for those with a Bachelor’s degree. For candidates with a Diploma, a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required. This experience should include working directly with communities, particularly in contexts involving refugees and host populations, and implementing projects focused on climate adaptation and natural resource management.
Languages:
Full professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of local languages spoken in the project locations is desirable, as it can enhance communication and engagement with community members.

The contract for this position is for a duration of 3 months, with a designated duty station in Moyo, Obongi, Yumbe, Koboko, Terego, and Madi Okollo. The expected start date for this role is October 202
