Job Overview:
The Agricultural Officer position at DRC Uganda is a critical role that focuses on the technical implementation of the Food Systems and Economic Self-Reliance project. This position is contingent upon securing funding and involves working across several districts, including Obongi, Moyo, Yumbe, Koboko, Madi Okollo, and Terego. The Agricultural Officer will be responsible for ensuring the quality and appropriateness of project activities, particularly in the area of Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA). This includes training community Farmer Groups and Project Management Committees, mobilizing communities, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The role requires a proactive approach to community engagement and the ability to adapt to the local context to effectively implement project goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Agricultural Officer will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: mobilizing communities and identifying target participants for project activities; supporting Agriculture Assistants in participant selection and profiling; conducting technical training on enterprise selection and CSA practices; establishing block/cluster gardens; facilitating community meetings and workshops; identifying community needs to inform project design; providing technical support to Agriculture Assistants; developing educational materials on ecosystem restoration; promoting environmentally friendly practices; participating in project input distribution; assisting in planning CSA activities; monitoring community participation; representing DRC in coordination meetings; building relationships with stakeholders; collecting and reporting data on project outcomes; and participating in monitoring and evaluation activities.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, or a related field. Additionally, they should have experience in community mobilization for participatory activities, implementation of ecosystem restoration and climate adaptation projects, and managing workforce and community members. Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and undertake practical demonstrations. Knowledge of local market systems, CSA, environmental issues, and gender inclusion is also required. Competent motorcycle riding skills and a valid riding license are mandatory, as well as full professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, or a closely related field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the principles of agricultural practices, climate-smart techniques, and community engagement strategies necessary for the successful implementation of the project.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least three years of practical field experience in community mobilization and project implementation. This experience should include working in environments that require collaboration with various stakeholders and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in the field. Familiarity with climate adaptation strategies and natural resource management is also highly beneficial.
Languages:
The position requires full professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Additionally, knowledge of local languages spoken in the project locations is desirable, as it can enhance communication and engagement with community members.

The contract for this position is for a duration of 12 months, with a designation of Duty Station in Imvepi, Moyo. The expected start date for this role is October 202
