Job Overview:
The Childminder (Babysitter) position is crucial for supporting operational activities within IOM by providing childcare services to beneficiaries' children while their family members or guardians participate in these activities. The role requires a compassionate approach to childcare, ensuring that the services provided are age-appropriate and safety-sensitive. The Childminder will lead basic learning activities and games tailored to various age groups, including those related to resettlement or family reunification processes. This position is essential for maintaining a clean and safe childcare environment, ensuring that all materials are safeguarded and that the children are provided with food and water in a hygienic manner. The Childminder will also be responsible for maintaining communication with operations staff regarding any material needs or issues that arise in the childcare areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide childcare services to beneficiaries' children during operational activities.
  • Ensure that all childcare provided is compassionate, age-appropriate, and safety-sensitive.
  • Lead and facilitate basic learning activities and games for children of various ages, focusing on themes related to resettlement and family reunification.
  • Safeguard all materials in designated childcare areas, including toys, books, and learning materials, and report any damages or shortages to the Operations staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in childcare areas by tidying up throughout the day and assisting cleaning staff as needed.
  • Provide food and water to children, ensuring consumption is safe and hygienic.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors. Performance indicators will include the quality of childcare, attentiveness to children's needs, compliance with safety standards, professionalism, and feedback from supervisors and parents.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a High School degree, preferably in Social Sciences, Education, or a related discipline from an accredited institution, along with two years of relevant experience. Alternatively, candidates with Secondary Education in the same fields and five years of relevant professional experience will also be considered. The role requires practical experience as a Childminder (Babysitter) for a minimum of two years, demonstrating the ability to provide safe and nurturing childcare in a supportive environment. Candidates should exhibit a strong sense of responsibility, patience, and commitment to child safeguarding and well-being, along with effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a High School degree in Social Sciences, Education, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Candidates with a Secondary Education in the same fields, coupled with extensive relevant experience, will also be considered eligible for the role.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of practical experience as a Childminder (Babysitter) is required for this position. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in providing childcare in a multicultural and fast-paced environment, showcasing their ability to remain calm and attentive while caring for children.

Languages:
Candidates must have an excellent command of English, Bengali, and Rohingya languages, both oral and written. Proficiency in a third language is considered an added advantage. The selection process will specifically evaluate language proficiency, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The position may require field visits in Cox's Bazar, Ukhiya, and Teknaf. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation and medical fitness certification. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the consultancy. However, it does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. Candidates are responsible for their own medical insurance and must provide proof of coverage before commencing work. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including discrimination and harassment.
