Job Overview:
The Communications Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of UNV’s communications strategy at both regional and country levels. This position is designed to ensure the timely delivery of relevant content that enhances the visibility of UN Volunteers and the UNV organization at the local level. The Communications Assistant is expected to contribute significantly to the mobilization of UN Volunteers, targeting UN partners and attracting a diverse pool of local and national talent to serve as volunteers. The role involves working closely with the Communications Analyst and the Country Coordinator to produce content, identify best practices, and share inspiring stories about volunteer assignments. The Communications Assistant will manage social media, coordinate campaigns, and support outreach activities, ensuring that all messaging is aligned with UNV’s strategic goals and tailored to the local context. This position requires collaboration across various units and teams within UNV to enhance organizational effectiveness and promote volunteerism as a vital component of development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the implementation of communications strategies and campaigns by creating country-specific promotional materials and communication products that align with UNV’s mandate.
  • Assist in generating and adapting content for multiple platforms, including drafting original, audience-specific content that highlights the contributions of UN Volunteers.
  • Support the dissemination of content through digital and offline channels, managing social media presence and tracking performance analytics.
  • Contribute to joint communications and storytelling efforts by liaising with UN partners and field teams to source stories and visuals.
  • Provide operational support for communications activities, including organizing logistics for events and assisting with graphic design and layout of communications products.
  • Maintain communications files and support internal reporting in line with Knowledge Management practices.
  • Engage with potential partners by drafting materials such as presentations and case studies to promote volunteerism.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences. They should demonstrate proficiency in managing communications through various channels, including social media. A solid understanding of brand management and quality assurance is essential, as is the ability to produce and implement impactful communications campaigns. Candidates should also have skills in storytelling, relationship management, and event planning to effectively support UNV’s communications initiatives.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field is required. Additional training or certifications in digital marketing, social media management, or graphic design would be advantageous. Candidates should have a strong understanding of communication strategies and tools relevant to the non-profit or development sector.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 1-2 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations or in a volunteer context is highly desirable. Familiarity with social media management and content creation is essential, as well as experience in organizing events and campaigns.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Brazil. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is often used in international contexts. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Spanish or French, would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Brasília, Brazil. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The assignment is classified as a family duty station, and living conditions in Brasília are generally good, with access to health services and accommodation options. The UN Volunteer will be part of the malicious insurance plan. It is important to note that Brazil has a security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security level of 3 (moderate), and the UN advises exercising caution due to high levels of crime in certain areas. Compliance with safety procedures and recommendations from the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is mandatory during the assignment.
