Job Overview: The UN Public intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Information Intern in Media Relations will play a crucial role in supporting the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) by assisting in strategic communication and public outreach efforts. The intern will work under the supervision of the DPO/SCS Public Information Officer, contributing to media relations tasks and helping to craft key messages that promote the work of UN Peacekeeping. The intern will engage in various activities, including drafting responses to media inquiries, monitoring media trends, and contributing creative ideas for projects and media stories. The position offers flexibility in work location, allowing for remote, hybrid, or in-person arrangements at the UN premises in New York. The internship is unpaid and can be either full-time or part-time, with a duration of six months, starting as early as October 5, 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of duties including: assisting the Strategic Communications Section with media relations tasks; drafting responses to media inquiries and key messages; sourcing content for daily press briefings; drafting and editing communications products such as articles, fact sheets, brochures, newsletters, and meeting notes; planning and implementing public events like media briefings and press conferences; monitoring media to identify trends and inform communications strategies; circulating media monitoring reports; and proactively contributing ideas for projects and media stories that enhance the narrative of UN Peacekeeping. The intern may also be required to perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Proficiency in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program.
