Job Overview:
The position of Interpreter at IOM Bangladesh is crucial for ensuring effective communication and knowledge sharing within the organization, particularly in the context of supporting the Rohingya population in Cox's Bazar. The Interpreter will be responsible for providing accurate and high-quality interpretation and translation services during interviews, meetings, and discussions. This role is essential for facilitating communication between IOM staff and the communities they serve, ensuring that information is conveyed clearly and accurately. The Interpreter will work under the Resettlement Movement Management (RMM) unit and will be expected to deliver high-quality translations of reports and communications, revise deliverables based on feedback, and ensure that all translations and interpretations adhere to professional standards. The role requires the ability to work under pressure in a multicultural environment, demonstrating strong discipline, teamwork, and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Interpreter will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: providing accurate and faithful interpretation during interviews, meetings, and discussions; delivering high-quality translations of reports, communications, and knowledge products; revising deliverables as per feedback from IOM; providing consecutive interpretation as required; ensuring all translations and interpretations use standard, accurate, and professional language; and maintaining a high level of professionalism in all assignments. Performance indicators for the evaluation of results will include the accuracy and clarity of interpretation and translation, timely delivery of translated documents, responsiveness to feedback and revisions, and demonstrated professionalism in all assignments.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a High School degree, preferably in Social Sciences, Education, or a related discipline from an accredited academic institution, along with two years of relevant experience. Alternatively, candidates with Secondary Education in the above field and five years of relevant professional experience will also be considered. The role requires a minimum of two years of practical experience as an Interpreter, demonstrating the ability to provide high-quality, clear, and faithful interpretation. Candidates should also have the capacity to work under pressure in a multicultural environment and exhibit strong discipline, teamwork, and professionalism.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a High School degree in Social Sciences, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution. Candidates with a Secondary Education in the same fields, combined with extensive relevant professional experience, will also be considered eligible for the role. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of the role and the context in which the Interpreter will operate.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of practical experience as an Interpreter. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to provide high-quality interpretation and translation services in a professional setting. Candidates should be familiar with the challenges of working in a multicultural environment and possess the skills necessary to navigate these challenges effectively.

Languages:
Candidates must have an excellent command of English, Bengali, and Rohingya languages, both oral and written. Proficiency in a third language is considered an added advantage. The selection process will specifically evaluate the proficiency of the required languages, which may include written and/or oral assessments. IOM's official languages are English, French, and Spanish, and knowledge of these languages may also be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
The position may require field visits in Cox's Bazar, Ukhiya, and Teknaf. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation. Appointment will be contingent upon certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable. IOM covers Consultants against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the consultancy. However, IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents and illnesses, and consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for such cases. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority, and discrimination based on gender, nationality, age, race, sexual orientation, religious or ethnic background, or disabilities.
