Job Overview:
The Sustainable Energy Associate will play a crucial role in providing technical support to the Climate Change, Water, Energy, and Environment (CCWEE) Portfolio. This position involves project pipeline development, diagnostics, and policy integration, ensuring that interventions are evidence-based and investment-ready. The Associate will work collaboratively with UNDP Yemen’s CCWEE Team, the Amman Regional Hub, and various stakeholders, including government ministries, private sector actors, financial institutions, and local communities. The Sustainable Energy Associate will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of sustainable energy solutions, climate change, and environmental policies. They should have experience in project management, technical analysis, and stakeholder engagement. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment. A commitment to promoting gender equality and social inclusion in energy programming is essential. The ideal candidate will also have a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a challenging work environment.
Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in environmental science, energy management, sustainable development, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's competitiveness for the position. Continuous professional development in areas related to climate change, energy policy, and project management is also advantageous.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in the fields of sustainable energy, climate change, or environmental management. Experience working in fragile or conflict-affected contexts is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNDP's operations and procedures, as well as experience in stakeholder coordination and partnership building, will be beneficial.
Languages:
The official language of Jordan is Arabic, and proficiency in English is mandatory, especially for communication with international stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages such as French, German, Italian, or Spanish is considered an asset but is not required.

This position is a UN Volunteer role, which includes a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of $2,124.21 per month and a one-time entry Lump Sum of $3,50

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Sustainable Energy Associate will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
- Providing technical support for energy initiatives, focusing on the design and implementation of energy transition and energy efficiency programs.
- Supporting project pipeline development by gathering technical data related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, cooling, and demand-side management.
- Participating in diagnostics and assessments under fragile-state conditions, considering security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security risks, supply chain disruptions, and community ownership models.
- Assisting in aligning interventions with Yemen’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) commitments, particularly in renewable energy access and resilience in essential services.
- Contributing to policy analysis and advisory work on energy transition and decarbonization pathways.
- Supporting the integration of energy priorities into national planning frameworks, including the National Strategy for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
- Supporting project design and implementation of energy projects within UNDP Yemen.
- Liaising with the Environment and Energy Team at the Amman Regional Hub to identify financing opportunities and engage with development partners and financial institutions.
- Contributing to documentation by preparing concept notes, project documents, and donor proposals. 1
- Facilitating structured coordination with national stakeholders, including government ministries and private sector actors. 1
- Supporting UNDP Yemen in technical meetings, workshops, and consultations, ensuring evidence-based contributions. 1
- Strengthening partnerships and stakeholder engagement mechanisms to advance energy sector collaboration. 1
- Supporting monitoring and reporting of project activities, ensuring timely delivery of outputs and compliance with performance indicators. 1
- Contributing to the preparation of progress reports, knowledge products, and communication materials for internal and external dissemination. 1
- Assisting in safeguarding project implementation, including environmental and social safeguards. 1
- Supporting the integration of gender equality and social inclusion into energy programming. 1
- Promoting digitalization and innovation where relevant. 1
- Promoting volunteerism through active engagement with UNV initiatives and contributing to knowledge sharing, documentation, and outreach activities.
