Job Overview:
The Global HIV Coordinator and Technical Adviser position is situated within the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Branch of the Programme Division at UNFPA. The role involves providing strategic, technical, and managerial leadership for UNFPA's HIV response, particularly in the context of the Strategic Plan 2026-202

• The post holder will work across various branches and regions to advance UNFPA's strategic approach to HIV prevention and the integration of HIV with sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). This position is critical in supporting fundraising efforts to build a sustainable portfolio and ensuring that UNFPA fulfills its mandate as a Lead Cosponsor in the UNAIDS Joint Programme. • The post holder will act as a bridge between UNFPA and the UNAIDS Secretariat, ensuring effective governance and representation in global HIV partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Global HIV Coordinator and Technical Adviser include:

• Governance, Representation, and UN80 Transition: Discharge governance and representational responsibilities as UNFPA’s Global Coordinator within the UNAIDS Joint Programme. Expand UNFPA's visibility and influence in HIV by shaping global policy discussions and promoting the organization's contributions to HIV prevention and SRHR integration. Provide strategic advice to senior management on UNAIDS transition and global health governance. Lead preparations for UNFPA's participation in UNAIDS governance processes, including the Programme Coordinating Board (PCB).
• Technical Leadership, HIV Strategy and Programme Support: Coordinate a collaborative approach to HIV prevention and SRHR integration across UNFPA. Lead the development of UNFPA's HIV strategy and technical frameworks, ensuring alignment with the Strategic Plan. Develop technical products to strengthen UNFPA's work on combination HIV prevention.
• Advocacy, Partnerships and Resource Mobilization: Lead strategic engagement with the Global Fund to align investments with UNFPA's mandate. Build high-level partnerships with key HIV partners and support resource mobilization efforts to sustain UNFPA's HIV portfolio.
• Team Leadership, Planning and Accountability: Coordinate an HIV team, ensuring alignment on priorities and effective performance management. Monitor progress on HIV workplan commitments and propose corrective actions as needed.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Global HIV Coordinator and Technical Adviser position include:

• Education: An advanced university degree (master’s level or equivalent) in public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field relevant to the position.
• Knowledge and Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in HIV prevention, SRHR integration, and gender equality, with at least seven years at the international level, preferably within the UN system or comparable multilateral institutions. Demonstrated experience in leading global policy and strategy work in HIV and SRHR, including engagement with intergovernmental processes. A recognized authority in HIV and sexual and reproductive health, with a strong track record of technical leadership. Familiarity with UNFPA's mandate and policies, as well as knowledge of UNAIDS and inter-agency collaboration, is essential.
• Skills: Excellent analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills, both written and oral. Strong resource mobilization and partnership development skills are also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s level or equivalent) in public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field that is directly relevant to the substantive areas of the post. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of HIV prevention and sexual and reproductive health issues.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in HIV prevention, SRHR integration, and gender equality. At least seven years of this experience should be at the international level, preferably within the UN system or comparable multilateral institutions. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to lead global policy, strategy, and governance work in the HIV and SRHR fields, including engagement with intergovernmental processes and global financing mechanisms such as the Global Fund.

Languages:
Excellent written and spoken skills in English are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in French is desirable, as it enhances communication and collaboration within the international context of the role.
