Job Overview:
The position of National Consultant in Nutrition is critical in addressing the pressing issue of malnutrition in Equatorial Guinea. The consultant will lead the revision, formulation, and drafting of the National Strategic Plan for Nutrition and the Protocol for the management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the current nutritional landscape, including the challenges and opportunities present in the country. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government ministries, international experts, and local organizations, to ensure that the strategies developed are evidence-based and aligned with international standards. The overarching goal is to enhance the quality of care for malnourished children and mothers, thereby improving health outcomes across the population.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
The consultant must possess a strong background in public health, nutrition, or related fields. Essential qualifications include at least five years of relevant professional experience in nutrition and public health, with proven experience in developing national nutrition policies, plans, or multisectoral frameworks. The consultant should also have experience in managing severe acute malnutrition, including the revision or development of clinical protocols, technical guidelines, or normative documents aligned with WHO recommendations. Experience in conducting situational analyses, facilitating technical consultations, and validating workshops is also essential. Desirable qualifications include relevant experience with WHO or other UN agencies or international organizations.
Educational Background:
A university degree in public health, nutrition, social policy, or related disciplines is essential. A doctorate in medicine (MPH) or health policy is desirable.
Experience:
The consultant should have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in nutrition and public health, particularly in developing national policies and strategies. Experience in managing severe acute malnutrition and working with government ministries and technical partners is crucial. Previous work in similar national or regional contexts will be considered an asset.
Languages:
Fluency in Spanish and/or French is mandatory, with knowledge of English being an asset.

- Conduct a thorough review of existing documents, studies, surveys, and strategic frameworks related to nutrition in Equatorial Guinea.
- Collaborate with an international expert to analyze the current nutritional situation, identifying gaps, challenges, and opportunities through a multisectoral approach.
- Facilitate technical consultations with relevant sectors sensitive to nutrition, including health, agriculture, education, social protection, and sanitation.
- Draft a National Strategic Plan for Nutrition based on evidence and results-oriented frameworks under the supervision of the international expert.
- Integrate WHO international recommendations into the strategic framework.
- Review national and international clinical guidelines related to acute malnutrition according to the latest WHO recommendations from 202
- In collaboration with the WHO international nutrition expert, draft a standardized national protocol for the prevention, identification, clinical management, monitoring, and referral of acute malnutrition at all levels of the health system.
- Organize and facilitate validation workshops with the Ministry of Health and technical partners.
- Incorporate feedback received and produce final versions of both documents.
