Job Overview:
The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Multilateral Engagement Team at WFP's Geneva office. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about humanitarian policy and governance discussions. The intern will assist in analyzing WFP's positioning on various humanitarian policies, engage with Member States to enhance their involvement, and facilitate outreach to private sector partners in Switzerland. The role requires a proactive approach to support the team in achieving its objectives for 2026, which includes increasing awareness and support for WFP operations among key stakeholders. The intern will gain valuable experience in multilateral engagement and humanitarian diplomacy, contributing to the overall mission of WFP.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include tracking Member State positions on key dialogues and thematic issues relevant to WFP, supporting the engagement of potential partners within the Geneva International context, preparing meeting briefs for senior management, and assisting in the preparation of proposals and concept notes. Additionally, the intern will be involved in other activities as requested by the Director, ensuring that all tasks align with the strategic goals of the organization. This role will provide the intern with hands-on experience in policy development and stakeholder engagement, essential for a career in international relations or humanitarian work.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be Bachelor’s students who have completed at least two years of study or Master’s students from a recognized university, having attended classes within the last 12 months. Alternatively, applicants who have completed their university education within six months prior to applying and have attended classes in the last 12 months are also eligible. Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory, with proficiency at level C. A working knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Portuguese, is considered an asset. Previous exposure to multilateral, national government, or NGO policy development is advantageous, as is international education or work experience. Experience in brief and communications preparation is also beneficial.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be pursuing a degree in international relations, political science, public policy, or a related field. A strong academic background is essential, with a focus on subjects that enhance understanding of humanitarian issues, governance, and multilateral engagement. Candidates should have completed at least two years of their Bachelor's degree or be enrolled in a Master's program, ensuring they have a solid foundation in relevant theories and practices.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, preferably through internships or volunteer work in related fields such as international relations, humanitarian assistance, or policy development. Previous experience in a multilateral setting or with NGOs will be highly regarded. The intern should demonstrate a basic understanding of government strategies and have the ability to develop narratives using data analysis and visualization to facilitate discussions with partners.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, with a requirement for excellent written and spoken communication skills. Knowledge of another UN official language is advantageous, as it enhances the intern's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contributes to effective communication within the organization. Familiarity with languages such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Portuguese will be beneficial in this role.

• Interns will work in person at the Geneva office and will receive a monthly stipend of up to US$1,000, depending on the duty station. However, WFP does not cover living expenses, accommodation arrangements, or visa costs. Travel expenses will be reimbursed for candidates from developing countries who are studying in their home country. It is important to note that family members of current WFP employees are not eligible to apply for this internship.
