Job Overview:
The Analyst position within the Environment and Sustainability Department (ESD) is crucial for supporting the Bank's commitments under its Environmental and Social Policy. The role involves working closely with colleagues in the ESD team to ensure effective environmental and social appraisal and monitoring of the Bank's diverse portfolio of projects. The Analyst will engage in oversight and verification of the Bank's environmental and social commitments, contributing to the assessment of compliance with applicable policies and identifying opportunities for enhancing environmental and social impacts. The position requires collaboration with banking teams and other departments to drive the agenda of sustainable development, ensuring that projects align with the Bank's environmental and social standards. The Analyst will also be involved in research, data management, and the drafting of publications, playing a key role in the continuous improvement of internal processes and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Analyst will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the general direction of the Head of Sector/Policy/Monitoring/Assurance. Key responsibilities include:
  • Working on assigned projects, Technical Cooperation initiatives, and other activities as a team member, taking ownership of specific tasks.
  • Supporting the assessment of compliance with the Environmental and Social Policy (ESP), evaluating environmental and social risks, impacts, and opportunities, including climate and nature risks.
  • Conducting research and analytical reviews, developing methodologies, and monitoring outputs and outcomes related to environmental and social performance.
  • Assisting in the coordination of meetings and events, engaging with stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Contributing to the improvement of internal processes, including data collection and management.
  • Ensuring adherence to the Bank’s Behavioural Competencies and Corporate Behaviours in all interactions and tasks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a degree in environmental and/or social sciences, economics, engineering, or a related field, or have comparable professional experience. A strong understanding of environmental and social risks, as well as familiarity with international environmental and social standards, is essential. Knowledge of financing instruments and approaches is advantageous, along with an understanding of the scientific, economic, and political dimensions of environmental and social issues. Effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are crucial. Candidates should also demonstrate strong research and analytical skills, with proven ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English. Familiarity with languages of EBRD countries of operations is a plus, and fluency in a local language is required for resident office appointments.

Educational Background:
A relevant degree in environmental and/or social sciences, economics, engineering, or a related field is required. Candidates with comparable professional experience in these areas may also be considered. The educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding environmental and social issues, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge to the assessment of investment projects.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have experience operating in a multicultural environment and the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external clients and colleagues. Experience in environmental and social appraisal, assessment, and monitoring is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the countries in which the Bank operates. Proven analytical and quantitative skills are essential for success in this role.

Languages:
Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Familiarity with a language of the EBRD countries of operations is advantageous, and for those appointed to resident offices, fluency in a local language will be required.
