Job Overview:
The Epidemiologist Research Associate will play a crucial role in supporting CHAI’s global, regional, and country teams in the assessment, design, and scaling of disease surveillance systems. This position requires a highly motivated individual with public health experience and strong analytical skills. The successful candidate will collaborate with government counterparts and various stakeholders to conduct epidemiological analyses, monitor and evaluate disease burden reduction efforts, and effectively communicate results to decision-makers. The role involves working across multiple regions in Africa, specifically in collaboration with teams in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Uganda. The candidate will be expected to work independently, drive implementation, and demonstrate a commitment to producing impactful results in public health.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Epidemiologist Research Associate include implementing surveillance projects related to malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTD), providing support to analytics workstreams, and conducting high-quality epidemiological analyses. The candidate will monitor the performance of surveillance processes, cultivate a culture of data use within disease programs, and support the institutionalization of data reviews. Additionally, the role involves contributing to the formulation of disease program documents, designing and disseminating operational research projects, providing technical support and training to staff, synthesizing results for government partners, and representing CHAI at external technical meetings. The candidate will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field, along with at least 2 years of relevant work experience that demonstrates increasing levels of responsibility and leadership. Strong project management skills are essential, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of malaria, NTDs, and other major global infectious diseases is required, as well as experience in monitoring and evaluating public health programs. Familiarity with disease surveillance systems, data management, and statistical analysis using software such as R or STATA is also necessary. Candidates should have exceptional communication skills and the ability to work independently in diverse environments.
Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding public health principles, epidemiological methods, and data analysis techniques relevant to disease surveillance and intervention effectiveness.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in public health, with a focus on program management and epidemiological analysis. Experience working in resource-limited settings, particularly in Africa, is highly desirable. Familiarity with decentralized teams and fast-paced environments will be advantageous for applicants.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the regions of operation may be considered an advantage, particularly for effective communication with local stakeholders and government partners.

This position may require travel up to 50% of the time, and the role is flexible to be based in any CHAI program country within the region, pending leadership approval.
