Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization founded in 2002, primarily in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Its mission is to save lives and reduce the burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries. CHAI works at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector in creating and sustaining high-quality health systems. Over the years, CHAI has expanded its focus beyond HIV to include infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, as well as non-communicable diseases like cancer and diabetes. The organization operates in 40 countries and employs a diverse team dedicated to maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead solutions, and sharing learnings globally. CHAI is committed to diversity and inclusion, recognizing that its mission is best advanced by the contributions of individuals with varied experiences and backgrounds.
Job Overview:
The Program Manager (PM) will oversee a large, cross-cutting portfolio aimed at introducing innovative health products in low- and middle-income countries. This role is pivotal in managing program operations, coordinating with donors and partners, and ensuring timely and high-quality delivery across various workstreams. The PM will engage in technical areas such as product landscaping and supply-side engagement, contributing to analyses that inform the market shaping strategy. The position demands strong project management skills, the ability to build and maintain relationships across different levels and functions, and a proactive approach to tasks. CHAI values personal qualities such as resourcefulness, responsibility, tenacity, independence, and a strong work ethic, which are essential for success in this role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Manager will be responsible for owning the operating rhythm of the program, which includes work planning, milestone tracking, and ensuring that a distributed team remains on schedule and within budget. The PM will develop and maintain project management tools to effectively track work plans, milestones, and deliverables. Additionally, the PM will manage the production of program deliverables globally, including donor reports and presentations for external meetings. In collaboration with CHAI's contracts and finance teams, the PM will develop and manage contracts with consultants and partners, overseeing invoicing, reporting, and payments. The PM will also organize and facilitate high-level calls with partner organizations and lead planning for project meetings and convenings. Maintaining organized and complete online project documentation and files is also a key responsibility. Furthermore, the PM will support the development of analyses and frameworks to identify and prioritize new product opportunities and market shaping interventions, conduct product landscaping to inform CHAI's strategy, prepare presentations and briefs for country teams and donor engagement, and develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective donors. Up to 25-40% international travel may be required as part of this role.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in Business, Economics, Public Health, or a related discipline, along with at least 7 years of relevant work experience. They should demonstrate success in managing large, complex programs with multiple stakeholders and workstreams. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, as are strong organizational skills and attention to detail. The ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, set direction, and work independently is crucial. Candidates must be able to perform effectively in high-pressure situations and fast-paced, multicultural environments with limited structure. Strong relationship management skills are necessary, including the ability to engage effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders. Familiarity with program financial management and budgeting is also required, along with high proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Familiarity with global health issues is advantageous.
Educational Background:
An advanced degree in Business, Economics, Public Health, or a related discipline is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of health systems and program management in low- and middle-income countries.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least 7 years of relevant work experience, particularly in managing large and complex programs that involve multiple stakeholders and workstreams. Experience in the pharmaceutical, diagnostics, or healthcare industry is highly desirable, as is familiarity with working in low- and middle-income countries or resource-limited settings.
Languages:
While the job description does not specify mandatory languages, proficiency in English is likely essential given the international nature of the role. Additional languages relevant to the regions where CHAI operates may be considered advantageous.
Additional Notes:
The position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location. The role may involve up to 25-40% international travel, indicating a need for candidates who are willing and able to travel as required. CHAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to providing a fair and respectful environment for all applicants.
