Job Overview:
The AVRR Project Assistant (Outreach) will play a crucial role in assisting the implementation of the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) project, specifically focusing on the Training, Assistance, and Territorial Support for the Efficiency of Assisted Voluntary Returns. The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Director of the Coordination Office for the Mediterranean and the Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, and will directly report to the Project Coordinator. This position is based in the Calabria Region and involves establishing close contacts with local stakeholders involved in migration management, including municipalities, local entities, NGOs, and diaspora groups. The assistant will provide AVRR information sessions and tailored counselling to Third Country Nationals (TCNs) interested in returning to their countries of origin, and will be responsible for submitting AVRR applications through the Ministry of Interior's online system. The role also includes maintaining documentation related to potential returnees, coordinating with various authorities, and assisting in organizing transportation for medical and non-medical cases. The assistant will contribute to statistical reporting and the dissemination of success stories related to AVRR beneficiaries.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in relevant fields such as International Relations, Law, Social, Political or Economic Sciences, Social Work, Migration or Development Studies, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, candidates with a High School diploma and four years of relevant professional experience will also be considered. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience:
The position requires at least two years of working experience in the migration sector, with a focus on providing direct assistance to migrant populations. Candidates should have experience working with vulnerable groups and a proven track record of engaging with Italian institutions at both central and local levels. Experience in a multicultural team environment is essential, and previous work in AVRR counselling is a valuable asset.
Languages:
Fluency in Italian and English is required, both oral and written. All IOM staff members are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset and will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes:
The position is subject to funding confirmation and may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months. Appointment is contingent upon certification of medical fitness, accreditation, residency or visa requirements, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security clearances. - Assist in the implementation of AVRR counselling and activities related to the project.
- Establish and maintain close contacts with local stakeholders involved in migration management.
- Provide AVRR information sessions and tailored counselling to TCNs interested in returning to their countries of origin.
- Submit AVRR applications through the Ministry of Interior's online system and maintain documentation for each potential returnee.
- Disseminate AVRR information materials in coordination with the Project Coordinator.
- Support migrants in completing AVRR applications and ensure the submission of complete files to the IOM AVRR Team.
- Coordinate with Police Headquarters, Immigration Offices, and Prefectures to facilitate the assessment and authorization process for migrants eligible for AVRR assistance.
- Assist in organizing transportation for medical and non-medical cases, including liaising with local medical facilities.
- Collect and compile information for statistical reporting and contribute to the identification and dissemination of success stories related to AVRR beneficiaries. 1
- Perform other tasks related to the execution of the project as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- University degree in International Relations, Law, Social, Political or Economic Sciences, Social Work, Migration or Development Studies, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or a High School diploma with four years of relevant professional experience.
