Job Overview:
The position of UNESCO Local and National Media Consultant involves working under the supervision of the Public Information Officer to enhance the visibility of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) through strategic dissemination of public information. The consultant will be responsible for crafting and releasing scientifically accurate information to local and national media, which includes writing press releases and organizing press conferences. The role requires a blend of in-office work at the ICTP premises and remote work, allowing for flexibility while ensuring effective communication with media outlets. The consultant's contributions are expected to significantly improve the relationship between ICTP and local/national journalists, thereby increasing the coverage of ICTP's research and educational activities in the media.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake several key responsibilities, including but not limited to: writing and disseminating press releases in Italian to local and national media outlets; establishing and nurturing media partnerships to enhance ICTP's visibility; evaluating the performance of media outreach efforts based on specific indicators such as the timeliness of press releases and the volume of media inquiries; and ensuring that ICTP's achievements and events are effectively communicated to the public. The consultant will also be expected to monitor media coverage and provide feedback on the effectiveness of communication strategies, contributing to continuous improvement in public information dissemination.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in fields such as Science, Communications, Public Information, Journalism, or a related discipline. Additionally, a strong background in public information and communications, particularly in the context of science dissemination, is essential. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of at least five years of professional experience in this area, demonstrating an in-depth understanding of the Italian media landscape, especially in science communication. Close contacts with journalists, editors, and directors of radio and TV stations are highly desirable, as they will facilitate effective media engagement.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes an advanced university degree, specifically a Master's degree or its equivalent, in relevant fields such as Science, Communications, Public Information, or Journalism. This educational background is crucial as it provides the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for effective communication and dissemination of scientific information to diverse audiences.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in public information and communications, with a specific focus on science dissemination. Candidates should have substantial experience working with media outlets and a deep understanding of how to effectively communicate scientific concepts to the public. Languages:
Fluency in both English and Italian is mandatory for this position, with excellent writing skills in Italian being particularly important.
