Job Overview:
The position of CHAI Associate focuses on supporting governments in Lusophone Africa, particularly Angola and Mozambique, in utilizing advanced planning techniques to reduce malaria cases and deaths. The Associate will be part of the Global Malaria Team and will assist in various areas such as costing malaria activities, optimizing funding, and seeking financial support for malaria programming. This role requires a passion for solving complex problems and contributing positively to the work environment. The Associate will report to the Associate Director for Malaria Management, Strategy & Financing and will collaborate closely with CHAI Country Teams and Regional Technical Teams. The position is term-limited through November 2026, emphasizing the need for strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, along with a commitment to producing results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate will be responsible for developing Excel-based budget and cost models for malaria interventions, conducting analyses to align available funding with needs, and identifying resource gaps. They will support the prioritization and optimization of activities within the funding envelope and develop resource mobilization proposals for countries, such as from the Global Fund. The Associate will assist malaria programs in identifying and addressing barriers to funding absorption and programmatic goals. Building strong relationships with stakeholders across CHAI, government, NGOs, and the private sector is crucial, as is facilitating coordination among these groups. The role may also involve sharing updates, best practices, and lessons learned, as well as traveling to remote regions with limited infrastructure and medical care.
Required Qualifications:
Essential qualifications for this position include professional-level fluency in both Portuguese and English, a Bachelor's degree in Business, Policy, Public Health, International Development, or a related field, and at least 2 years of relevant work experience. Candidates must demonstrate high proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, along with excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. The ability to manage multiple work streams, set priorities, and work independently in high-pressure situations is essential. Exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to travel (10-50% of the time) are also required.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business, Policy, Public Health, or International Development. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of health systems and the financial aspects of health interventions.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of working experience, ideally in roles that involve analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience working with government officials, multilateral organizations, or development donors is advantageous, as is familiarity with resource-limited settings, particularly in Lusophone Africa.
Languages:
Fluency in both Portuguese and English is mandatory for this position. Working-level proficiency in French or Spanish is considered an advantage, enhancing communication capabilities in diverse environments.
