Job Overview:
The VSO Project Officer for Gender and Safeguarding will play a crucial role in providing technical and operational support for the i-Work program, specifically focusing on gender equality, social inclusion, and safeguarding. This position is essential for ensuring that all program interventions are safe, inclusive, and gender-responsive. The officer will work closely with various stakeholders to integrate principles of gender equality, youth empowerment, disability inclusion, and safeguarding into the program's implementation at the cluster level. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues related to gender and safeguarding, ensuring compliance with VSO's policies and local legal requirements. Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of gender issues, social inclusion, and safeguarding principles. They must have a proven track record of working in similar roles within NGOs or development programs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the role involves collaboration with various stakeholders. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to promoting inclusivity and respect for diversity in all aspects of their work. Additionally, they should be adaptable and resilient, capable of navigating complex situations and facilitating positive change within the community.
Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant social science field is required for this position. This educational background should provide the candidate with a solid foundation in understanding social dynamics, gender issues, and community development principles. Advanced degrees or specialized training in gender studies, social work, or related fields may be advantageous but are not mandatory.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least 6 years of experience in gender, inclusion, and safeguarding roles, preferably within the NGO sector or development programs. This experience should include delivering training, conducting safeguarding risk assessments, and managing sensitive cases. Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders and communities is essential, as well as experience in implementing gender-responsive initiatives.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within VSO and with international partners. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the regions of Bahir Dar, Kombolcha, and Addis Ababa would be considered an asset, as it would enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
This position may involve travel within Ethiopia to various program sites, and candidates should be prepared for this requirement.
