Job Overview: The position of E T Consultant at the World Bank involves working within the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), which is recognized as the global leader in international investment dispute settlement. The consultant will be responsible for providing legal support, particularly in drafting, formatting, proofreading, and finalizing case-related correspondence in both English and French. The role requires a strong understanding of legal processes and the ability to manage case documentation effectively. The consultant will also be involved in maintaining case procedural details, conducting research, preparing budget estimates, and assisting with logistical arrangements for hearings. This position is crucial for ensuring that ICSID continues to provide an impartial and effective forum for resolving disputes between host governments and foreign investors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The E T Consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities including: drafting, formatting, proofreading, and finalizing case-related correspondence in both English and French; preparing draft documents for review by legal counsel; filing submissions in ICSID’s document management system; coordinating parties’ submissions and providing technical assistance; tracking case procedural details; maintaining calendars of events for each case; conducting research on assigned issues; preparing budget estimates for cases; coordinating with the Administration and Finance Team on case escrow accounts; assisting with presentations for conferences; providing formatting and proofreading assistance for awards and decisions; preparing translations of case correspondence; coordinating logistical arrangements for hearings; and sharing miscellaneous responsibilities with Legal Assistants as assigned by the Chief Counsel.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French are essential, along with the ability to draft correspondence and edit materials in both languages. Knowledge of arbitration procedures is desirable, as well as sound organizational skills and the ability to prioritize assignments under time pressure. Familiarity with legal processes and terminology is required, along with the ability to research and analyze legal information. Proficiency in computer skills, particularly in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is necessary, as well as advanced knowledge of videoconferencing platforms.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position, with a focus on law or a related field being advantageous. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in legal principles and practices, particularly in relation to international investment and arbitration.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a legal or paralegal role. This experience should include familiarity with legal documentation, case management, and the ability to work under pressure while managing multiple assignments. Experience in international law or investment disputes is particularly valuable.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this position, as the consultant will be required to draft and edit documents in both languages. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
