Job Overview:
The Assistant Incident Investigator (Aviation Domain) position is crucial for enhancing aviation safety through thorough analysis and investigation of aviation-related incidents. The selected candidate will work closely with Incident Investigator Experts to develop safety recommendations based on detailed analyses of incidents, trends, and statistical data. This role involves preparing and disseminating data while ensuring confidentiality, compiling voice recorder transcripts, and maintaining an accurate incident database. The candidate will also participate in the development of new investigation tools and provide feedback to Air Traffic Controller staff to support operational safety improvements. The position requires a proactive approach to incident investigation and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards in aviation operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participate in the analysis of aviation-related safety incidents and assist Incident Investigator Experts in developing safety recommendations based on incident analyses, observed trends, patterns, and statistical information.
• Prepare data for internal and external dissemination, ensuring confidentiality by de-identifying sensitive information and notifying safety agencies of relevant occurrences within regulatory timeframes.
• Compile and process voice recorder transcripts and prepare radar and system recordings as required for investigations.
• Act as the focal point for queries or requests from external parties, including National Safety Agencies (NSA), other Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs), and airlines, providing data as required.
• Maintain and update the incident database to ensure accurate and reliable safety records.
• Participate in the development and testing of new investigation tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Provide feedback reports to MUAC Air Traffic Controller (ATCO) staff as required to support operational safety improvements.
• Assist in drafting technical working documents, reports, presentations, etc.
• Carry out any other tasks in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed a post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Air Traffic Control, Air Traffic Management, or aviation-related studies, meeting European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 5 or higher. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is required to perform the advertised responsibilities. Candidates should have experience in supporting aviation safety-related investigations, a solid understanding of safety methodologies and models, and familiarity with safety management principles. Knowledge of regulations applicable to the aviation incident investigation process is essential, along with technical documentation writing skills. Candidates should also demonstrate analytical thinking, quality focus, effective communication, teamwork, and planning and organizing abilities.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a post-secondary education in a relevant field related to aviation, such as Air Traffic Control or Air Traffic Management. The qualifications must meet the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 5 or higher, ensuring that candidates possess the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform the job effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the aviation sector, particularly in roles related to safety investigations or air traffic management. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in an operational aviation environment and supporting aviation safety-related investigations, demonstrating their ability to apply safety management principles and methodologies effectively.

Languages:
Proficiency in English at level C1 is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the Agency. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of French is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication within the multicultural environment of EUROCONTROL.

Additional Notes:
The position is a full-time role with a duration of 5 years, subject to renewal or conversion under specific conditions. The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine months before being established in the post. The appointment will be made in accordance with the General conditions of employment governing servants at the EUROCONTROL Maastricht Centre.
