Job Overview:
The position of Assistant Technique en Génie Civil is crucial for the operational management of the Common Services in Mali, which aims to enhance operational coherence and optimize resource utilization within the UN system. The role involves ensuring the maintenance, repair, and improvement of the physical structure and facilities of the United Nations House in Bamako. The Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Facility Management Analyst and will be responsible for providing a safe, hygienic, and professional working environment for UN staff. This includes executing maintenance tasks, managing logistics support, and ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene standards. The Assistant will also play a key role in responding to requests from various UN agencies and will be the face of general maintenance operations, contributing to the overall performance of the UN system in Mali.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular visual inspections of buildings, roofs, fences, parking lots, and circulation areas to identify damages such as cracks, leaks, and wear. Perform minor masonry work, including repairing slabs, patching cracks, and tiling. Carry out maintenance painting of offices, corridors, doors, and exterior facades. Execute basic carpentry tasks such as repairing or replacing locks, adjusting doors and windows, and fixing office furniture. Repair or replace damaged ceiling tiles, especially after water leaks.
• Inspect and maintain the potable water supply network, water pumps, and storage tanks. Ensure regular maintenance and unblocking of the sanitation network, including inspection chambers, septic tanks, and drainage pipes. Diagnose and repair water leaks promptly to prevent waste and collateral damage. Install new sanitary equipment as needed for renovations.
• Support the implementation of workspace renovations, including the assembly/disassembly of modular partitions and moving heavy furniture according to approved plans. Respond quickly to requests from staff regarding building-related issues. Assist in supervising the maintenance of outdoor spaces before and during the rainy season.
• Accompany and technically supervise external contractors during major renovation or improvement works. Verify that materials delivered by suppliers meet technical specifications. Ensure that all interventions comply with safety and hygiene standards, utilizing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The incumbent may also perform other tasks deemed necessary for the effective functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Qualifications:
A secondary school diploma is required, or a university degree (Bachelor's) in air conditioning, electricity, civil engineering, rural and urban engineering, or equivalent will be duly considered but is not a requirement. A technician diploma (BT2) would be an asset. Candidates should possess relevant professional experience in infrastructure monitoring and control, with a minimum of 4 years of experience with a secondary education or 1 year with a Bachelor's degree. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of maintenance practices and possess technical skills in building management.

Educational Background:
Candidates are required to have at least a secondary school diploma. A university degree in relevant fields such as civil engineering, air conditioning, or electricity is preferred but not mandatory. A technician diploma (BT2) is considered an asset. The educational background should align with the technical requirements of the position, ensuring that candidates have the foundational knowledge necessary for effective performance in the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in infrastructure monitoring and control for candidates with a secondary education. For those with a Bachelor's degree, at least 1 year of relevant experience is required. Candidates should have practical experience in maintenance and repair work, demonstrating their ability to manage and execute tasks effectively within a facility management context.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UN in Mali. Knowledge of English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders. Proficiency in local languages may also be beneficial in enhancing communication with local communities and partners.
