Job Overview:
The Field Project Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of FAO's emergency, food security, and livelihood interventions at the field level, particularly in Sudan. This position is vital for ensuring effective delivery, monitoring, and coordination of project activities across various Sudanese states. The Field Project Specialist will work closely with FAO technical teams, implementing partners, government authorities, and other humanitarian and development actors to achieve project results and strengthen coordination at the state level. The role requires a proactive approach to project management, ensuring that interventions are aligned with FAO's strategic objectives and that they effectively address the needs of vulnerable populations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Project Specialist will be responsible for a range of tasks including supporting gender assessments, baseline surveys, and other related studies. They will lead the selection process of implementing partners in consultation with FAO staff in Khartoum and ensure timely delivery of project inputs to these partners as per the Letters of Agreement (LoAs). The incumbent will also prepare and implement project monitoring plans, liaise with other organizations providing livestock support and women's empowerment, and prepare comprehensive evidence-based monitoring reports after the completion of each LoA. Additionally, the Field Project Specialist will co-lead the Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) sector at the state level, participate in inter-agency needs assessments, and regularly collect and analyze relevant information related to agriculture, livestock, and food security in White Nile State. The role may also involve performing other related tasks as requested by supervisors.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Agriculture, Livestock, Natural Resource Management, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Economics, or a related field. They should have a minimum of four years of relevant experience in field-level project implementation, monitoring, coordination, food security, and livelihoods, as well as agriculture or related development or humanitarian activities. A working knowledge of both English and Arabic is essential, and candidates must be nationals of Sudan.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as Agriculture, Livestock, Natural Resource Management, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or Economics. It is important that candidates have obtained their qualifications from institutions accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant experience in areas such as field-level project implementation, monitoring, coordination, food security, and livelihoods, as well as agriculture or related development or humanitarian activities. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to manage projects effectively and work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Languages:
Candidates must have a working knowledge of English and Arabic, as these languages are essential for communication and coordination within the role. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
