Job Overview:
The position of Chauffeur is critical to the operations of the WHO's Emergency Health Programme (EPR) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, specifically in Bunia, Ituri Province. The role is designed to enhance the logistical capabilities of the unit responsible for emergency responses. The Chauffeur will be responsible for the safe transportation of authorized personnel, as well as the delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Logistics Administrator and will have some flexibility in planning routes. This position is essential for ensuring that the unit can effectively respond to urgent transportation needs, thereby supporting the overall mission of the WHO in managing health emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Chauffeur will have a variety of responsibilities, including: driving office vehicles and ensuring the safe transport of authorized personnel; delivering and collecting mail, documents, and other items; welcoming official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs procedures as needed; performing daily maintenance checks on the assigned vehicle, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires; addressing minor repairs and organizing repairs for more significant issues; maintaining cleanliness and proper functioning of the vehicle; recording official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities; ensuring compliance with regulations in the event of an accident; and performing other duties as required by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a secondary school education and hold a valid national driver's license. It is desirable for candidates to have training in automotive mechanics, which would be considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to produce concise reports on accidents and have a thorough understanding of driving regulations, safety rules, and daily vehicle maintenance. Knowledge of first aid is also beneficial, as is the ability to read, understand, and execute instructions and maps in the working language.

Educational Background:
The essential educational requirement for this position is a secondary school diploma. A national driver's license is mandatory. While not required, training in automotive mechanics is considered a desirable qualification that could enhance a candidate's application.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of two years of experience as a driver. Experience working with a United Nations agency or similar organization is considered an advantage. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of safe driving and adherence to road safety regulations.

Languages:
Fluency in French is essential for this position, as it is the primary working language. Knowledge of Swahili and other local languages is desirable and would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local populations and stakeholders.
