Job Overview: The Communications Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of communications and advocacy strategies for the UNDP Maldives Office. This position aims to enhance the visibility and awareness of UNDP among partners, the media, and the public. The Assistant will work closely with program, project, and operations staff to ensure consistent service delivery and high-quality communication outputs. The role includes managing social media presence, developing communication materials, and providing operational support to the communications portfolio. The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated team focused on supporting the Maldives in achieving the 2030 Agenda, with an emphasis on engaging diverse stakeholder groups and addressing communication gaps.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage UNDP Maldives’ social media presence and website, including content creation and analytics.
Develop communications and advocacy materials, assisting in editorial processes and drafting content for various platforms.
Support events and initiatives by providing logistical assistance and reporting.
Offer administrative and operational support to the Communications Unit.
Assist with any other related duties as required, ensuring smooth operations within the communications team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in content writing for various media platforms. A background in editorial work, social media management, and digital communications is essential. Proficiency in English and Dhivehi is required, along with translation skills. Experience in event management, media relations, and graphic design is highly desirable. Candidates should also have a good working knowledge of information technology and office software packages, as well as the ability to adapt and innovate in a dynamic environment.
Educational Background: While a bachelor's degree is not mandatory, it will be considered an advantage. Candidates should have a minimum of secondary education, with 4 years of relevant work experience or 1 year of experience with a bachelor's degree in a related field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience for candidates with secondary education, or 1 year of experience for those with a bachelor's degree. Experience in the development sector, particularly in communications roles, is highly desirable.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Dhivehi is mandatory, with strong communication skills in both languages being essential for the role.
