Job Overview:
The Communications Officer at DRC Syria will be instrumental in developing a diverse range of communication products aimed at enhancing the organization's visibility and reputation. This role is crucial for ensuring that all communications align with established standards, including compliance with communications SOPs, branding guidelines, and organizational values. The Communications Officer will support program delivery by crafting clear and impactful messaging, collaborating closely with various teams to ensure that content resonates with a wide array of audiences. Responsibilities include designing and implementing awareness campaigns, producing educational materials, and fostering relationships with key stakeholders, including beneficiaries and the public, to promote understanding and engagement. The position requires a proactive approach to communication, ensuring that all materials are culturally appropriate and effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of work experience in media and communications, particularly within humanitarian, development, or NGO/INGO contexts. Proven experience in producing high-quality communication materials and engaging with media is essential. Strong writing and editing skills in both English and Arabic are required, along with experience in multimedia software design. Candidates should demonstrate strong coordination and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and a proactive approach to communication.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, or a similar relevant field is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the Communications Officer role.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in the media and communications field, particularly with humanitarian organizations. Candidates should have a proven track record of producing high-quality communication materials and engaging with various stakeholders, including media and donors. Experience in capacity-building training and coaching non-specialist teams in communication skills is also valuable.
Languages:
Proficiency in both English and Arabic, including speaking and writing, is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication with diverse audiences and stakeholders in the region.
Additional Notes:
The contract length for this position is until 28 February 2027, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The position is classified as Non-Management Level H and is based in Damascus. The expected start date is 1st of October 202

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communications, Visibility and Donor Compliance: Ensure adherence to donor requirements and visibility guidelines for ongoing projects, coordinating effectively with DRC field offices to meet communication needs. Ensure compliance of all external communication products with DRC, partner, and donor branding requirements. Provide inputs for proposals and reports to highlight program impact.
- Content Development and Storytelling: Produce high-quality communication materials such as success stories, newsletters, and videos. Maintain a comprehensive archive of communication materials and travel to field offices to document activities.
- Campaigns, Design and Public Awareness: Plan and implement communication campaigns, developing materials that engage target audiences. Use design software to create visual materials for various platforms.
- Explosive Ordnance Risk Education: Support the development of EORE campaigns and materials, ensuring they are culturally and gender-sensitive.
- Support External Engagement: Engage with media to generate coverage of DRC's programs, prepare materials for media briefings, and support public events.
- Partner Engagement and Capacity Strengthening: Assist DRC partners in producing impactful communication materials and build capacity among staff and partners.
- Other Responsibilities: Perform additional duties as assigned by the line manager.
