Job Overview:
The Logistics Assistant position at WFP is crucial for implementing well-defined logistics and supply chain processes that facilitate the effective delivery of goods and services across various modalities. The role involves supporting logistics operations, ensuring timely ordering and delivery of commodities, and managing logistics vendor contracts. The Logistics Assistant will also be responsible for responding to technical queries, contributing to budget preparation, and assisting in inventory management processes. The Logistics Assistant will work closely with the Logistics Officer and Head of Field Office, contributing to the overall mission of WFP to provide food assistance to those in need.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Supporting logistics operations and activities to ensure effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.
  • Facilitating the timely ordering and delivery of commodities and supplies to authorized partners and destinations.
  • Assisting in the management of logistics vendors’ contracting activities, including performance monitoring.
  • Responding to technical queries and requests for support, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
  • Contributing to budget preparation, monitoring, and revision for all delivery modalities.
  • Monitoring inventory management processes to track trends and account for inventory status.
  • Assisting in the management of commodity accounting data quality and integrity.
  • Supporting operational pipeline analyses and assessments for all delivery modalities.
  • Processing documentation for logistics operations, including customs clearance and invoice verification. 1
  • Collecting and compiling data to produce reports and ensure information accuracy in corporate systems. 1
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to support efficient logistics operations management. 1
  • Providing guidance to other support staff to assist them in completing standard tasks to agreed standards and deadlines.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Logistics Assistant position should possess the following qualifications: - Completion of secondary school education is mandatory. - A post-secondary certificate in a related functional area is desirable. - Relevant work experience of at least 5 years in logistics or supply chain management is required. - Strong analytical skills and experience in using corporate systems to monitor shipments and analyze data. - Proven ability to draft reports and assist in contract documentation preparation. - Experience in providing technical business support in corporate systems is advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary school education, with a preference for those who have obtained a post-secondary certificate in a relevant functional area. This educational background is essential for understanding the logistics and supply chain processes that the role entails.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in logistics or supply chain management. Candidates should have a solid understanding of logistics operations, vendor management, and inventory control, as well as experience in analyzing data and preparing reports.

Languages:
Fluency in French (level C) is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Knowledge of English is desirable and would be beneficial for interacting with a broader range of stakeholders and partners.

This is a Fixed-Term contract at Grade G5, with a duration of 1 year, renewable upon confirmation of the probationary period. The position is based in multiple duty stations, specifically identified in Manakara, Fort Dauphin, and Bekily.
