Job Overview: The position involves establishing a Cooperation Agreement for the implementation of the Waste Wise Cities Tool (WaCT) in the urban area of San Juan de Pasto, Colombia. The selected implementing partner will be responsible for the collection, verification, organization, and delivery of both primary and secondary data necessary for the successful execution of the WaCT. This role is crucial for ensuring that the data collected adheres to the instruments, protocols, and methodological guidelines set forth by UN-Habitat. The project is expected to commence in September 2026 and will last approximately 3.5 months, with a maximum proposed budget of $40,000 USD.
Duties and Responsibilities: The implementing partner will undertake several key activities, including:
Preparation: Implementing preparatory activities to organize the data collection process.
Generation and composition of household municipal solid waste.
Generation of non-household municipal solid waste.
Monitoring municipal solid waste received by recovery facilities and assessing the level of control.
Monitoring municipal solid waste received by final disposal facilities and assessing the level of control.
Analyzing waste composition at final disposal facilities. The deliverables include a comprehensive Work Plan detailing the operational definitions for implementing the WaCT methodology, as well as a technical implementation report documenting the execution of data collection activities and a complete data package.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of urban waste management practices and methodologies, particularly in relation to data collection and analysis. Familiarity with the Waste Wise Cities Tool and experience in implementing similar projects will be highly advantageous. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Educational Background: A degree in environmental science, urban planning, public administration, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in waste management or urban sustainability will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in urban waste management, data collection, and project implementation. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs, particularly in the context of UN-Habitat projects, will be highly regarded.
Languages: Proficiency in Spanish is mandatory, as the project will be conducted in Colombia. Knowledge of English is desirable but not required. Additional languages relevant to the local context may also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: The position is project-based with a contract duration of approximately 3.5 months.
