Job Overview:
The Protection Monitoring Assistant will work under the supervision of the Protection Monitoring (ProMo) specialist/Officer and the line management of the Protection Team Leader (TL). This role is crucial for the timely identification of urgent protection risks and issues affecting target communities, following the Protection Analytical Framework (PAF). The assistant will be responsible for implementing protection monitoring activities in Rural Damascus, which includes conducting field monitoring missions to collect protection information, facilitating interviews and focus group discussions with various community members, and ensuring data is collected in accordance with DRC's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protection principles. The assistant will also be tasked with maintaining an up-to-date understanding of community dynamics, identifying protection needs and risks, and conducting internal and external referrals to appropriate service providers. Additionally, the role involves supporting the drafting and updating of protection information management reports, collaborating with monitoring and evaluation teams, and advocating for the needs of vulnerable individuals through effective coordination with stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Protection Monitoring Assistant include:

• Conducting field monitoring missions to collect protection information as per the Protection Analytical Framework (PAF).
• Facilitating key informant interviews, household interviews, and focus group discussions with IDPs, refugees, returnees, migrants, and host community members.
• Ensuring data collection adheres to DRC ProMo SOPs and protection principles, including data protection SOPs.
• Uploading protection data into mobile devices using the KoBo app to produce clear reports and follow up on identified protection-related issues.
• Maintaining an in-depth understanding of community dynamics in monitored locations.
• Identifying protection needs and risks affecting individuals and households, and conducting referrals to service providers.
• Regularly updating service mapping and referral pathways in collaboration with the ProMo officer and Protection Team Leader.
• Conducting Rapid Protection Assessments following community alerts.
• Providing psychological first aid to individuals in distress. 1
• Supporting the ProMo Officer and Protection Team Leader with drafting and updating PIM reports. 1
• Participating in team meetings to address issues and set plans. 1
• Collaborating with MEAL teams for monitoring and evaluation activities. 1
• Developing and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders for coordination and information dissemination. 1
• Advocating for the needs of vulnerable individuals through evidence-based advocacy. 1
• Performing any other duties as directed by the ProMo Officer or Protection Team Leader.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Protection Monitoring Assistant position include:

• At least 2 years of experience in protection services, protection monitoring, data collection, or relevant humanitarian action.
• Knowledge of protection information management (PIM), Kobo Toolbox, data collection methodologies, referral pathways, and service mapping.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients' safety at all times.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties.
• Ability to organize work, meet deadlines, work independently, and prioritize tasks under pressure.
• Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility.
• Willingness to collaborate with and support people from diverse backgrounds, including different ethnic groups and religions.
• Demonstrated interest in humanitarian work and supporting individuals affected by conflict.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position is a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Rights, Counseling, Psychology, or a closely related field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of protection issues and effectively supporting vulnerable populations.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in protection services, protection monitoring, data collection, or related humanitarian action. This experience is crucial for the candidate to effectively identify protection risks, conduct assessments, and engage with affected communities.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic, both reading and writing, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of English is also required, which will facilitate communication and reporting in a multilingual environment.

The contract length for this position is until the end of December 2026, and it is classified as a Non-Management I2 level role. The expected start date is as soon as possible.
