Job Overview:
The Physician (General Medicine) position at IOM involves providing comprehensive medical care to migrants and refugees, ensuring their health needs are met in a timely and effective manner. The role requires a strong commitment to the principles of humanitarian assistance and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by displaced populations. The physician will be responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions, conducting health assessments, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans. Additionally, the physician will be expected to participate in health education initiatives, promoting preventive care and healthy practices among the migrant population. This position demands a high level of empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work in a challenging environment, often under pressure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough medical examinations and assessments of patients, including taking medical histories and performing physical examinations.
• Diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions, providing appropriate medical interventions and follow-up care.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, specialists, and mental health providers, to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and medical guidelines.
• Provide health education and counseling to patients and their families, promoting understanding of health issues and preventive measures.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring compliance with IOM policies and procedures.
• Participate in training and capacity-building activities for local healthcare providers and staff.
• Engage in community outreach efforts to raise awareness about health services available to migrants and refugees.
• Monitor and evaluate the health status of the migrant population, identifying trends and areas for improvement in service delivery. 1
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

• Medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Valid medical license to practice in Venezuela.
• Strong clinical skills and knowledge of general medicine practices.
• Experience working in a multicultural environment and with vulnerable populations is highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in using medical software and electronic health records.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on medical advancements.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a medical degree from an accredited institution, with a focus on general medicine. Additional certifications in public health or tropical medicine would be advantageous. Continuous education and training in relevant medical fields are encouraged to ensure the physician remains knowledgeable about current practices and guidelines.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in general medicine is required, preferably in a humanitarian or emergency setting. Experience working with displaced populations or in low-resource environments is a significant asset. Familiarity with the health challenges faced by migrants and refugees will be beneficial in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Venezuela. Proficiency in English is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages spoken by migrant populations may also be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This position is full-time and may require flexibility in working hours to accommodate the needs of the migrant population. The contract duration is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance.
