Job Overview: The Associate Senior Data Engineer position at the World Bank Group is a critical role within the Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit (VPU). The role involves working closely with various stakeholders, including business analysts, data scientists, and product teams, to understand their data needs and translate them into well-structured, reusable data models. The Associate Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for designing and building dimensional and semantic data models, ensuring that the data transformation processes are efficient, documented, and repeatable. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Senior Data Engineer include:
Data Transformation and Modeling: Design and build dimensional and semantic data models on top of the curated data layer, ensuring that raw data is transformed into business-ready tables. Apply software engineering practices to data transformation code, ensuring that it is modular, reusable, and well-documented.
Semantic Layer and Metrics Governance: Define and maintain a single source of truth for enterprise metrics and business definitions, preventing inconsistencies across teams. Collaborate with governance teams to align business and technical metadata.
Testing, Documentation, and Data Quality: Implement automated data quality tests and validation checks throughout the transformation pipeline. Maintain comprehensive documentation of data models and business logic to facilitate self-service for analysts and data scientists.
Stakeholder Enablement and AI Readiness: Work with business analysts and product teams to understand their use cases and prepare datasets for AI consumption. Build or support dashboards and self-service data products.
Cross-Cutting Analytics Standards and Interoperability: Define enterprise standards for analytical data products, ensuring consistency and interoperability across business units. Embed analytics standards into platform capabilities through automated validation and compliance checks.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Associate Senior Data Engineer position include:
Education: A Master's degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in data or analytical engineering.
Role-Specific Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in data and/or analytical engineering at an enterprise scale.
Certification Requirements: Relevant Agile certifications such as SAFe, and industry-recognized certifications in Data and Analytics Engineering, particularly Databricks certifications.
Required Skills/Abilities: Expertise in analytics engineering practices, strong SQL skills, proficiency in Python, experience with modern lakehouse platforms, and familiarity with data governance tools.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the Associate Senior Data Engineer position typically includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with significant relevant experience may also be acceptable.
