Job Overview:
The Equipment Security Engineer position is critical within the IAEA's Department of Safeguards, which is responsible for ensuring that nuclear materials are used solely for peaceful purposes. The role involves supporting the design, evaluation, qualification, and lifecycle management of mechanical systems and materials used in safeguards equipment. The Equipment Security Engineer will conduct continuous security assessments and play a key role in enhancing equipment security under various operating conditions. The engineer will work closely with other technical staff and inspectors to ensure the reliability and compliance of safeguards equipment, contributing to the overall mission of the IAEA.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Equipment Security Engineer will be responsible for reviewing technical developments in safeguards equipment, evaluating mechanical designs for structural integrity and material suitability, and conducting security and vulnerability assessments of deployed safeguards equipment. The engineer will perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and propose engineering modifications to enhance security performance. Additionally, the role involves supporting the Vulnerability Review Laboratory's operations, providing forensic engineering and materials analysis, and contributing to the development and improvement of mechanical engineering procedures and quality assurance protocols. The engineer will also provide technical guidance and training to Safeguards staff, conduct policy and technical gap analyses, and support procurement and equipment development processes through technical evaluations of vendor proposals and compliance with IAEA standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field. A minimum of five years of relevant working experience in mechanical engineering and systems engineering is required. Experience in the implementation of nuclear safeguards is considered an asset, as is professional experience at the international level. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in structural mechanics, mechanical design, and technical writing, as well as familiarity with project management principles and methodologies.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical area such as computer science or engineering is required for this position. Advanced degrees or certifications in related fields may be advantageous and enhance a candidate's qualifications.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant working experience in mechanical engineering and systems engineering. Experience in the implementation of nuclear safeguards is highly desirable, as is professional experience at the international level, which can provide valuable insights into the complexities of working within a global organization like the IAEA.

Languages:
