Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security and Safety Specialist at UN Women is responsible for providing security and safety support across Africa, advising various UN Women offices on their security responsibilities. This role involves ensuring compliance with UN security policies, conducting security assessments, and providing recommendations to mitigate risks to personnel and operations. The specialist will also oversee the implementation of the UN Women Security Plan and manage security-related communications and training. The position is temporary, ending on 30 November 2026, and may require travel within the region and internationally.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of the Security and Safety Specialist include providing technical support and guidance to Country, Multi-Country, and Regional Offices, ensuring timely and accurate security advice, overseeing security evaluations, and tracking developing threats. The specialist will liaise with local security organizations, participate in security management meetings, and maintain a security network. Responsibilities also include developing and implementing the UN Women Security Plan, monitoring compliance with Security Risk Management Measures, reporting security incidents, and conducting training on security awareness and preparedness. The specialist will also oversee budget and finances related to security operations and perform other security-related tasks as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in security management, business administration, political/social science, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in security, with at least 2 years at the international level. Experience in conducting security risk assessments, disaster operations, and familiarity with the UN Security Management System is desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in relevant fields such as security management, international relations, or political science. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted. Candidates with military or police senior Command and Staff College qualifications may also be considered.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in security, with at least 2 years in an international context. Experience in conducting security assessments, disaster operations, and implementing business continuity programs is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN Security Management System is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and desirable for candidates.
