Job Overview:
The Maintenance Support Technician will join the cryogenics maintenance team within the Technology Department at CERN. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the preparation for the next maintenance technical shutdown and the integration of new major assets into the maintenance systems. The technician will work with advanced cryogenic systems, which are crucial for the operation of the Large Hadron Collider. Responsibilities include collecting and consolidating maintenance data, supporting on-site maintenance activities, rolling out new methodologies in collaboration with field technicians, and enhancing work instructions and quality assurance procedures. The position requires a proactive approach to implementing maintenance policies and best practices for new cryogenic assets as part of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider project. This role not only provides hands-on experience with complex systems but also allows the technician to make significant contributions to a project of global scientific importance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Support Technician include:
  • Collecting and consolidating maintenance data within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Supporting the preparation and coordination of maintenance activities on-site.
  • Rolling out new maintenance methodologies in collaboration with field technicians.
  • Enhancing work instructions, checklists, and quality assurance procedures used by contractors.
  • Contributing to the implementation of maintenance policies and best practices for new cryogenic assets as part of the HL-LHC project.
  • Working autonomously to address maintenance solutions for large and complex systems.
  • Participating in the organization of Long Shutdown 3 for the cryogenics infrastructure and providing input to the team.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards and established procedures during maintenance activities.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Maintenance Support Technician position include:
  • Basic mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of cryogenics fundamentals or oil and gas systems is advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Understanding of maintenance documentation and procedures.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, safety awareness, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills and a strong commitment to safety protocols.
  • Motivation to learn and develop new technical competencies.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a general secondary education diploma. Additionally, applicants should be recent graduates with a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. It is important to note that applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the job is fully onsite. The target start date for this position is November 1, 202
  • Candidates must be prepared to work in radiation areas and undertake interventions in underground installations. A valid driving license is required, and candidates will be exposed to electromagnetic fields under certain conditions. Due to the occupational health risks associated with this position, selected candidates must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed. Compensation includes a monthly stipend of 4687 Swiss Francs (tax-free), 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances.
