Job Overview:
The Programme Assistant position at UNFPA Mozambique is designed to support the Population and Development (P&D) Unit in various capacities. The role involves assisting in the collection, cleaning, and analysis of population data, including census datasets and demographic health surveys. The Programme Assistant will contribute to drafting comprehensive population profiles, thematic reports, policy briefs, and monitoring materials that align with the UNFPA 2026-2029 Strategic Plan. Additionally, the Programme Assistant will play a key role in the technical design and maintenance of digital dashboards that track durable solutions for internally displaced persons (IDPs). The role also includes capacity building and partner coordination, where the Programme Assistant will prepare learning materials and conduct orientation sessions for various national institutions. Overall, this position is integral to enhancing data systems and supporting the integration of population dynamics into national development strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the P&D unit in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing population data, census datasets, and demographic health surveys to track socio-demographic trends.
• Draft comprehensive population profiles, thematic reports, policy briefs, and monitoring materials aligned with the UNFPA 2026-2029 Strategic Plan.
• Participate in data validation and monitoring exercises to support evidence-based policy advocacy and program design.
• Support the technical design, development, and maintenance of user-friendly digital dashboards for tracking durable solutions for IDPs.
• Integrate diverse data sources into centralized dashboard systems to improve data interoperability.
• Prepare learning materials and conduct orientation sessions for staff from the National Institute of Statistics, Ministry of Planning and Development, and National Institute for Disaster Management on utilizing digital dashboards and analytical data tools.
• Coordinate data-focused working groups among government, UN agencies, and civil society partners.
• Participate in multi-stakeholder workshops and coordination meetings, ensuring documentation of minutes, action points, and data-sharing updates.
• Promote volunteerism and encourage local youth engagement, documenting personal insights and stories to showcase the impact of the UNV program. 1
• Strengthen knowledge of the UNV mandate by engaging with relevant publications and participating in local UNV activities.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data management and analysis.
• Experience in drafting reports, policy briefs, and monitoring materials.
• Familiarity with digital dashboard design and data visualization tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with various stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-cultural environment.
• Knowledge of population dynamics and development issues is an advantage.
• Proficiency in using statistical software and data analysis tools is preferred.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, statistics, demography, public health, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage.

Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in data management, analysis, or a related field is required. Experience working with international organizations or in a development context is preferred.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the official language of Mozambique. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, particularly in business and academic settings. Knowledge of local languages would be an asset.
