Job Overview:
The Electrical Technician position at CERN involves working on the qualification and characterization of High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) tapes and cables, which are crucial for the High-Luminosity Upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). The role requires a curious and eager individual who is willing to learn about cryogenics, superconductivity, and the construction of magnets and high current transfer lines. The technician will be responsible for performing critical current measurements, analyzing experimental results, and installing instrumentation in superconducting magnets. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Electrical Technician include performing reel-to-reel indirect critical current measurements, conducting direct critical current and contact resistance measurements, analyzing and presenting experimental test results, installing instrumentation in superconducting magnets, participating in the assembly and testing of 100 kA class power transmission systems for the HL-LHC, and verifying and validating the instrumentation integrated into these systems. The technician will also be expected to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, ensuring reliability and autonomy in their work.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have experience in electrical testing or material testing, with additional experience in material testing considered an asset. Knowledge in instrumentation and data acquisition is essential, as well as the ability to read electrical diagrams. The ideal candidate should be reliable, autonomous, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is required, along with a commitment to learn the other language.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a general secondary education diploma. Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or a related field. Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. This experience should be relevant to the field of electrical and electronics engineering or related areas, ensuring that the technician is well-prepared to handle the responsibilities of the role.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory for this position. Candidates should also demonstrate a willingness to learn the other language, which is considered beneficial for effective communication within the diverse environment at CERN.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the position is fully onsite. Candidates must possess a valid driving license and may be exposed to electromagnetic fields under certain conditions. Due to occupational health risks, selected candidates must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed. The job closing date is set for 02.08.2026 at 23:59 CEST. The position offers a monthly stipend of 4687 Swiss Francs (tax-free), 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances.
