Job Overview:
The Communications Work-Study Trainee will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and engagement of the Speaking Out Case Studies (SOCS) project. This position requires a dynamic individual with expertise in digital communications, content development, and campaign management, as well as a strong interest in humanitarian affairs, international relations, and global health issues. The trainee will be responsible for translating complex content into compelling digital narratives, supporting audience engagement strategies, and developing campaigns aimed at increasing reach among humanitarian practitioners, academics, students, and other stakeholders. The SOCS project aims to document and analyze MSF's actions and decision-making processes during humanitarian emergencies, providing valuable insights into the dilemmas and controversies faced by the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the Communications Work-Study Trainee include:
  • Digital communications & campaign management: Strengthening and implementing digital communication strategies to enhance visibility and engagement for the SOCS project; developing and managing multi-channel communication campaigns across various platforms such as mailouts, LinkedIn, and the SOCS Sharepoint page; creating campaign calendars and coordinating content dissemination aligned with project milestones; monitoring campaign performance using analytics and proposing adjustments to improve impact; and supporting audience development and community engagement initiatives.
  • Content creation & editorial work: Producing high-quality written content in both English and French, including mailouts, LinkedIn posts, interviews, web content, and promotional materials; translating complex content into accessible communications; identifying stories and communication opportunities; ensuring editorial consistency and quality across all channels; and supporting proofreading and adaptation of existing content.
  • Website & digital platforms: Improving content on the SOCS website and Sharepoint page; optimizing content for digital audiences and search visibility; contributing to enhancing user experience and accessibility of online resources.
  • Monitoring & reporting: Tracking communication indicators and producing performance reports; analyzing engagement data and audience insights to inform future communication strategies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong skills in digital communications and content development, with a proven ability to create engaging narratives. A genuine interest in humanitarian affairs, international relations, and global health issues is essential. The ideal candidate should have experience in managing digital campaigns and a solid understanding of audience engagement strategies. Proficiency in both English and French is mandatory, as the role involves producing content in both languages. Additionally, familiarity with SEO practices and analytics tools is desirable, as is the ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A background in communications, public relations, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should be pursuing or have recently completed a degree in a relevant discipline, demonstrating a strong understanding of communication principles and practices, particularly in the context of humanitarian work.

Experience:
The position is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled in a work-study program or have recently graduated. The emphasis is on candidates who are eager to learn and contribute to the mission of MSF through effective communication strategies.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this position, as the trainee will be required to produce content in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages would be considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader audience.

Additional Notes:
This is a work-study trainee position with a contract duration of one year. The starting date is as soon as possible, and the role is based in Geneva, Switzerland, with some responsibilities in Paris, France.
