Job Overview:
The Local Agronomist position is primarily focused on providing local support for the UTF/GEO/034/GEO-F project, which aims to formulate and design land consolidation in Georgia. This role is crucial in assisting the FAO Representation in Georgia to implement land consolidation strategies that integrate irrigation rehabilitation and contribute to agricultural development. The Local Agronomist will work closely with local communities, landowners, and farmers to facilitate the successful implementation of pilot projects in selected rural areas, particularly in the village of Shavghele. The overarching goal is to enhance agricultural production, improve land use efficiency, and strengthen land rights, particularly for women. The position requires a proactive approach to community engagement, conflict resolution, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the project's success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Local Agronomist will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including providing technical support for the implementation of the land consolidation pilot project, facilitating communication with local authorities and stakeholders, conducting interviews with landowners, and preparing feasibility study reports. The incumbent will support the land valuation process, participate in land re-allotment, and ensure alignment of land consolidation activities with agricultural support programs and government policies. Additionally, the Local Agronomist will contribute to the development of the National Land Consolidation Programme based on pilot experiences and support local stakeholder consultations for the adoption and implementation of the Land Consolidation Plan.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Agriculture, Land Management, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in agronomy, horticulture, plant production or protection, amelioration, or soil management is required. Knowledge of land consolidation practices will be considered an asset. Candidates must also have a working knowledge of English at level C and must be nationals of Georgia.
Educational Background:
The position requires a university degree in a relevant field such as Agriculture, Land Management, or a closely related discipline. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of agricultural practices, land management, and the socio-economic factors influencing rural development.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in agronomy or related fields. Experience working with rural communities, farmers, and in multi-disciplinary teams on large-scale development projects will be highly valued. Familiarity with land governance and tenure systems, as well as experience with international organizations and government agencies, will be considered advantageous.
Languages:
A working knowledge of English (level C) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not explicitly required.
