Job Overview:
The Entomologist (Human Disease Vectors) will work under the supervision of the Medical Entomologist and will be responsible for formulating and implementing research and development activities related to the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) package for human disease vectors. This role involves contributing to the development of SIT through research activities at the Insect Pest Control Laboratory and Coordinated Research Projects. The position also requires providing technical guidance to the IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme, assisting in the transfer and validation of SIT technologies to Member States, and training fellows and visiting scientists. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing innovative R&D approaches and ensuring the effective implementation of SIT technologies in alignment with the needs of Member States.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Entomologist will be responsible for developing, adapting, and validating technologies related to the control of human disease vectors (HDVs) within the framework of area-wide integrated pest management programs. This includes providing recommendations on the transfer and implementation of these technologies to Member States. The role also involves coordinating and implementing national, regional, and interregional projects under the IAEA technical cooperation programme, promoting and evaluating Coordinated Research Projects (CRPs) related to SIT for HDVs, and providing technical support to visiting scientists and collaborators. Additionally, the Entomologist will contribute to the development of manuals, guidelines, and standard operating procedures related to SIT for HDVs, and will provide input for annual reports and newsletters.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in medical entomology or related biological sciences, with an advanced university degree being an asset. A minimum of 5 years of working experience in research and development related to SIT for human disease vectors or other related pests is required. Experience in an international setting, particularly in transferring SIT technologies in developing countries, is highly desirable. Candidates should have thorough technical knowledge of HDVs, including mass-rearing techniques, insect quality control management, and radiation protocols. Familiarity with FAO and IAEA mechanisms and procedures is also an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's Degree in medical entomology or a related field. An advanced university degree is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant working experience, particularly in research and development related to the SIT for human disease vectors. Experience in an international context, especially practical field experience in transferring SIT technologies in developing countries, is strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of the biology of HDVs and the principles of SIT.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written command of English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.
