Job Overview:
The consultancy position involves implementing a lab-in-the-field behavioral experiment aimed at understanding the impact of breadwinner strain on economic behavior and participation in communal seed banks. The selected firm will be responsible for conducting face-to-face, computer-assisted interviews with approximately 400 farming individuals in Vihiga County, Kenya. The primary objective is to collect both quantitative and qualitative data to explore how the mental and emotional pressures of being the main household provider affect individuals' willingness to contribute to communal seed banks and their economic decision-making processes. The firm will work closely with IFPRI to design the survey instrument and ensure ethical engagement with participants throughout the study. The data collection is expected to be completed by July 30, 2025, and will include a qualitative component involving focus group discussions to enhance data collection and participant engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the survey implementer include: translating the survey instrument and interview guide into local languages; obtaining necessary ethics clearance and research permits; acquiring tablets for data collection; developing and finalizing the CAPI data entry program; preparing a field implementation manual; organizing the hiring and payment of enumerators and facilitators; facilitating enumerator training and survey pretesting; developing a field schedule for data collection; conducting regular status updates; implementing spot- and back-check protocols; participating in weekly meetings with IFPRI; sharing data generated during the collection process; conducting data cleaning and ensuring consistency; organizing focus group discussions; recording and transcribing FGD discussions; and delivering a final report covering both the experimental fieldwork and qualitative debriefing component.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires demonstrated experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative survey fieldwork in Kenya within the past five years, with a preference for experience in implementing field and lab-in-the-field experiments. Candidates should have expert knowledge of the local context and languages in the target areas, as well as experience in building trust with village leaders and communities. Strong program management skills and experience in coordinating large field teams are essential. Proficiency in computer skills, particularly with CAPI and statistical software packages, is required, along with experience in obtaining local ethics review and permits.

Educational Background:
