Job Overview:
The Senior Social Risk Specialist position at the EIB is a pivotal role within the Projects Directorate, specifically in the Sustainability, Impact and Advisory Department. The primary function of this role is to translate the Bank's social development policies into actionable practices. This involves advising on the evolution of social due diligence frameworks and management systems to ensure they remain robust and future-ready. The specialist will be responsible for building strong networks within the organization and enhancing internal capacities to deliver a high-quality, risk-responsive approach to social due diligence. This role also includes contributing to the development of knowledge, tools, and operational pilots that enhance the Bank's ability to identify, manage, and mitigate social risks, thereby shaping emerging practices and ensuring that social considerations are integrated into the Bank's operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Social Risk Specialist include:
  • Strengthening the institutional environment for social risk management in projects by developing a network of social risk specialists within the Projects Directorate.
  • Managing the community of practice on social risk management and contributing to the establishment of the S&CO helpdesk on ECS procedures.
  • Providing technical guidance to the ECS Committee Chair on relevant issues and coordinating needs assessments for capacity building across the Projects Directorate.
  • Leading initiatives to improve a risk-responsive, user-centered approach to social risk due diligence, employing innovations in user-centered design and digitalization.
  • Contributing to the development of internal systems for data analysis and reporting on social risk issues.
  • Leading the EIB's efforts to prevent and mitigate gender risks in projects, including gender-based violence and harassment.
  • Overseeing the evolution of the risk-responsive approach to due diligence across gender risks and embedding it in systems and tools.
  • Developing methods for reporting on gender risks across the EIB's portfolio and providing effective advice and training on gender risks and GBVH matters.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (minimum equivalent to a Bachelor) in a relevant field such as sociology, anthropology, social development practice, environmental studies, or economics. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of experience focused on social due diligence and the implementation of social standards within an international development or financial institution is required. Experience in developing and implementing policies for managing gender risks in projects, particularly in high-risk contexts, is essential. Candidates should also have a sound knowledge of social due diligence frameworks and practical experience in their application in a project funding context.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field, preferably in sociology, anthropology, social development practice, environmental studies, development studies, or economics. A strong academic foundation in these areas is crucial for understanding the complexities of social risk management and due diligence.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in social due diligence and the implementation of social standards within international development or financial institutions. Experience at a senior level is advantageous, especially in developing and facilitating strategic mechanisms to build capacity and support best practices in large institutions.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, and a good command of French is also required, as both are official working languages of the EIB. Knowledge of other EU languages would be considered an advantage. Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).

Additional Notes:
