Job Overview:
The Investment Officer position within the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is crucial for driving investment opportunities in the Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services (MAS) sectors across Southern Africa. The role involves supporting the identification and assessment of investment opportunities, developing early-stage project collaborations, and working closely with various teams within the IFC to enhance investment outcomes. The Investment Officer will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with regional clients and stakeholders, leading client projects, and ensuring that investment conditions are favorable for sustainable development. This position is integral to the IFC's mission of creating markets and opportunities in developing countries, leveraging private sector solutions to combat poverty and promote economic growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Investment Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the identification and assessment of Upstream & Advisory and Investment opportunities based on country and sector strategies.
  • Developing early-stage project collaborations, feasibility studies, and pilot projects that lead to investment opportunities in the MAS sectors.
  • Working closely with the IFC Investment Services team to build a strong pipeline of quality investment opportunities through proactive business development.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with regional clients, businesses, banking and multilateral partners, and government officials.
  • Leading client projects by monitoring financial situations, procuring consultant services, and providing necessary reporting information.
  • Serving as a transaction/team leader, evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing new transactions.
  • Leading the negotiation and legal documentation process for transactions.
  • Coordinating with social, environmental, governance, and technical assistance colleagues to add value to client businesses.
  • Preparing project supervision and donor reports, including monitoring and evaluation reports. 1
  • Assisting in the formulation and monitoring of IFC’s strategy in the MAS sectors in the Africa region.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in Business, Finance, Economics, or a relevant field. They should have 8-12 years of experience in corporate and/or project finance, with a proven track record in sourcing, structuring, and closing investments. Experience in investment banking, private equity, or fund management is essential, along with direct involvement in investment transactions. Candidates should also demonstrate expertise in the Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services sectors, particularly in Africa, and possess excellent financial, credit, and equity skills. Strong negotiation skills and the ability to interact independently with senior management and government officials are also required.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to perform effectively in the role.

Experience:
The position requires 8-12 years of relevant experience in corporate and/or project finance. Candidates should have a proven track record of sourcing, structuring, and closing investments, with demonstrated experience in investment banking, private equity, or fund management. Experience in the Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services sectors, particularly in the African context, is highly advantageous.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English. Proficiency in additional languages would be considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders across the region.

This position is a full-time role with a term duration of 3 years.
