Job Overview:
The Trade/Export Finance Officer position at the EIB is a pivotal role within the International Partners Department, specifically in the Financial Inclusion Division's Trade Finance Unit. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about enhancing trade and export finance solutions. The officer will be responsible for addressing trade and export finance gaps by providing innovative de-risking and liquidity solutions to EU Export Credit Agencies and leading commercial banks. The role requires a proactive approach to structuring trade and export finance operations, developing scalable financial instruments, and ensuring that these initiatives align with the EIB's strategic objectives. The officer will also play a significant role in supporting cross-border trade by designing liquidity and risk-sharing mechanisms that strengthen the capacity of partner financial institutions, ultimately delivering measurable development impacts in line with EIB Global's strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Trade/Export Finance Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the EIB Global trade and export finance framework, ensuring alignment with EIB objectives and external mandates.
  • Originate, appraise, structure, negotiate, and manage trade and export finance facilities with commercial banks and Export Credit Agencies.
  • Conduct detailed financial, credit, and institutional analysis of partner institutions, including risk assessment and limit monitoring, governance assessment, and operational capacity evaluation.
  • Collaborate with other EIB services to monitor and manage the trade and export finance portfolio, addressing exposure, concentration, performance, and early warning signals, and proposing remedial actions as necessary.
  • Maintain and develop strong business relationships with partner banks, European Export Credit Agencies, peer international financial institutions, and relevant EU bodies.
  • Represent EIB Global in international trade and export finance forums, working groups, and initiatives aimed at promoting best practices and market development.
  • Contribute to cross-directorate and cross-institutional initiatives, including product innovation, digitalization, policy work, and knowledge sharing within EIB Global.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (minimum equivalent to a Bachelor) in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline; a postgraduate qualification is advantageous. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in trade and/or export finance is required, preferably at a peer international financial institution, European Export Credit Agency, or a leading European/international bank with strong emerging markets exposure. Proven expertise in trade and/or export finance instruments, transaction processing, documentation, and risk mitigation techniques is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate strong expertise in credit risk analysis of financial institutions and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural, international environment while managing relationships with financial institutions.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification would be considered an advantage, as it demonstrates a higher level of expertise and understanding of complex financial concepts relevant to trade and export finance.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in trade and/or export finance. This experience should ideally be gained in a peer international financial institution, a Development Finance Institution (DFI), a European Export Credit Agency, or a leading European/international bank with significant exposure to emerging markets. Candidates should have a proven track record in managing trade and export finance operations and a strong understanding of the financial instruments involved.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, and a good command of French is also required, as both languages are official working languages of the EIB. Knowledge of other EU languages would be considered an advantage, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse environment of the EIB.
