Job Overview: As an Education Officer at UNICEF, you will play a crucial role in providing professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for education programmes/projects within the Country Programme. This includes development planning, execution, management, and implementation of various technical and administrative programme tasks. Your responsibilities will encompass facilitating programme development, implementation, monitoring progress, evaluation, and reporting. You will be expected to support programme development and planning, manage and monitor programme delivery, provide technical and operational support for programme implementation, build networks and partnerships, and contribute to innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building. This position is vital in ensuring that educational initiatives are effectively delivered and that the rights of children to education are upheld.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Education Officer include:
Supporting the development and planning of education programmes by providing technical input and ensuring alignment with UNICEF's strategic goals.
Managing and monitoring the implementation of education programmes, ensuring that results are delivered effectively and efficiently.
Providing technical and operational support to ensure the successful implementation of education initiatives, including training and capacity building for local partners.
Building and maintaining partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to enhance programme delivery and impact.
Engaging in innovation and knowledge management to improve educational practices and outcomes.
Conducting evaluations and assessments to monitor programme progress and impact, and reporting findings to relevant stakeholders.
Collaborating with other sectors within UNICEF to ensure a holistic approach to child development and education.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the position of Education Officer, candidates must meet the following requirements:
A Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or any related field.
At least 2 years of relevant work experience in research, programme planning, management, or education-related fields.
Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural environments and manage complex situations effectively.
A commitment to UNICEF's core values and competencies, including partnership building, ethical awareness, results-driven approach, innovation, and collaboration.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the foundational knowledge necessary to understand and address the complexities of educational programming and child development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience. This experience should ideally be in research, programme planning, management, or education, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts. Candidates with experience in project monitoring, site supervision, and quality assurance will be preferred. Experience in a multicultural environment and a teaching certificate are considered assets.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is desirable and will be considered an asset.
