Job Overview: The Livelihoods Assistant plays a crucial role in implementing a range of livelihoods activities aimed at supporting communities affected by displacement. This position involves conducting livelihoods assessments and implementing activities through regular field visits. The Livelihoods Assistant will report directly to the Livelihoods Team Leader and will engage directly with project beneficiaries, including managing beneficiary registration, follow-up, and monitoring. The role is designed to ensure participatory, transparent, and inclusive implementation of projects, aligning with DRC's commitments to localization and community engagement. The Livelihoods Assistant will be expected to identify and assess community needs, suggest solutions, and support the Project Officer in both office and field tasks. This position is integral to fostering community resilience and ensuring that livelihoods services are effectively delivered to those in need.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Livelihoods Assistant will conduct field visits to assess, implement, and monitor all livelihoods activities in coordination with the Line Manager. Key responsibilities include identifying community needs and proposing solutions in collaboration with the Project Officer, supporting the identification of potential work areas and beneficiary selection, and ensuring adherence to DRC's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during activity implementation. The Assistant will coordinate with beneficiaries prior to commencing activities, participate in beneficiary induction and complaints mechanism sessions, and archive program-related documents. Additionally, the Assistant will conduct satisfaction questionnaires with beneficiaries post-activity, develop monthly visit plans for business development assessments, and ensure clear communication regarding livelihoods services. The role also involves arranging Business Development Skills Training, overseeing attendance and logistics, selecting potential micro-grants, and coordinating with the supply chain team for timely procurement. The Livelihoods Assistant will support the dissemination of the Community Feedback Mechanism (CFM) and ensure beneficiaries understand how to raise complaints or feedback safely. Maintaining transparency and DRC's positive reputation within communities is essential, as is supporting coordination with local partners and service providers during activity implementation. The Assistant may also be assigned additional duties by the Line Manager as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Livelihoods Assistant position should possess a university or technical institute degree, preferably with at least one year of relevant experience in livelihoods-related fields such as vocational training, micro-grants, internships, and counseling. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are essential, along with experience working with community-based organizations or vocational training institutes. Familiarity with humanitarian work and experience supporting partner-based activities are desirable. Proficiency in the MS Office suite is required, and candidates should be well-organized, patient, and capable of working in a humanitarian context. Preference will be given to applicants with volunteering experience in similar fields, and applications from individuals with disabilities are encouraged.
