Job Overview:
The position of Assistant logistique (chef de convoi de camions poids lourds) is crucial within the Supply Chain unit of WFP. The incumbent will be responsible for organizing, planning, and supervising the convoys of heavy trucks transporting both food and non-food items across various locations in Haiti. This role requires a strong understanding of logistics and transportation management, as well as the ability to lead and coordinate a team of truck drivers effectively. The Assistant logistique will work under the direct supervision of the Fleet and Garage Manager, ensuring that all operations comply with WFP's established procedures and guidelines. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, particularly in ensuring the safety and security of the convoy, as well as maintaining communication with the fleet manager regarding the convoy's progress. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches those in need in a timely and efficient manner, contributing to WFP's mission of alleviating hunger and supporting recovery efforts in Haiti.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant logistique include, but are not limited to:
  • Leading and providing guidance to the truck drivers during convoy operations, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Managing telecommunications and utilizing HF and VHF radios, as well as Thuraya communications, to keep the fleet manager informed about the convoy's status and location on an hourly basis.
  • Ensuring that all drivers perform their duties in accordance with their job descriptions and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Addressing any security issues that arise during transport and making informed decisions to ensure the safety of the convoy.
  • In the event of vehicle breakdowns, determining the safest and most efficient course of action for repairs.
  • Ensuring that sufficient funds are available for unloading cargo at the destination.
  • Conducting daily inspections of vehicles to ensure they are mechanically sound and reporting any issues to the immediate supervisor.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and mechanical integrity of all trucks under direct responsibility.
  • Ensuring that truck logbooks are accurately completed daily and in a timely manner. 1
  • Ensuring that trucks are refueled on time and that fuel consumption is monitored according to WFP standards. 1
  • Safeguarding that the cargo is transported securely to the final destination without contamination, loss, or damage, and assisting with loading and signing transport letters. 1
  • Being accountable for all trucks and equipment assigned to drivers, ensuring they remain in good condition. 1
  • Ensuring that trucks are loaded according to established weight limits and that cargo is evenly distributed for safety. 1
  • Promoting safe and responsible driving practices among drivers. 1
  • Assisting with repairs and maintenance activities when trucks are in the garage. 1

Required Qualifications:

  • Secondary education with a specialization in automotive mechanics or heavy equipment operation.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in heavy fleet transportation.
  • Strong planning, preparation, organization, and command skills for managing heavy truck convoys.
  • Ability to troubleshoot emergencies involving heavy trucks while on the road.
  • Excellent knowledge of the road network in Haiti is essential for effective navigation and transport management.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a secondary education, ideally with a focus on automotive mechanics or heavy vehicle operation. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of vehicle maintenance and operation, which are integral to the role of Assistant logistique.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of heavy fleet transportation. Languages:
