Job Overview: The Technical Officer, Quality Improvement (TO, QI) will play a crucial role in supporting the EpiC MNCH/N project, which aims to enhance maternal, newborn, child health, and nutrition services in Bauchi State. This position involves providing technical, programmatic, and data support to ensure the effective implementation of high-impact interventions across primary healthcare (PHC) facilities and community platforms. The TO will work closely with the Senior Technical Officer for Quality Improvement and PHC Integration, as well as the Senior Technical Officer for Strategic Information, to monitor and evaluate program performance, ensuring alignment with national guidelines and state priorities. The role requires a strong focus on quality improvement processes, data management, and stakeholder engagement to drive the uptake of essential health services.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Providing daily technical support for the implementation of maternal, newborn, child health, and nutrition (MNCH/N) interventions across PHC facilities and community platforms.
Supporting the rollout of high-impact interventions such as antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC), newborn care, nutrition screening, breastfeeding support, and referral systems.
Strengthening the integration of MNCH/N services within the PHC system, ensuring compliance with state and national guidelines.
Facilitating quality improvement cycles by identifying service delivery gaps, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing corrective actions.
Participating in joint supportive supervision with PHC teams to document service delivery gaps and improvements.
Ensuring the correct application of clinical and nutrition protocols during service delivery.
Supporting data collection, validation, and timely reporting of MNCH/N indicators.
Conducting routine data quality checks and maintaining updated registers and electronic reporting tools.
Participating in review meetings and contributing to data analysis sessions and evidence generation. 1
Contributing to training, mentorship, and capacity-building efforts for facility and community-level teams. 1
Performing other duties as assigned that align with the role's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, Community Health, or a related field. A minimum of 4 years of experience in supporting maternal, newborn, child health, nutrition, primary healthcare, or HIV programs is required. Familiarity with Nigeria's primary healthcare systems and community structures is preferred. Experience with data management and monitoring and evaluation tools is highly desirable, along with a strong background in District Health Information Systems (DHIS2). Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) or government agency, particularly in public health or health systems strengthening programs, is an advantage.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, or Community Health. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively support maternal and child health initiatives and understand the complexities of public health systems.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 4 years of relevant experience in supporting maternal, newborn, child health, nutrition, or HIV programs. This experience should include familiarity with Nigeria's healthcare systems and community structures, as well as proficiency in data management and monitoring and evaluation tools. A strong background in working with District Health Information Systems (DHIS2) is also highly desirable, as it indicates the candidate's ability to manage health data effectively.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the organization and for reporting purposes. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Bauchi State would be an advantage, as it would facilitate better communication with community members and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Jama’are LGA, Bauchi State, Nigeria, and may require travel of 50% to 70% to various project sites. The expected hiring salary range for this role is between USD 12,300 and 17,000 annually, which includes basic salary and allowances.
