Job Overview:
The position of Chauffeur is critical within the WHO's Health Emergency Programme (EPR), which aims to enhance the capacity of Member States to manage health risks and coordinate international health actions during emergencies. The role is based in Bunia, Ituri Province, where the need for human resource reinforcement in the logistics unit has been identified. The Chauffeur will be responsible for transporting authorized personnel, delivering and collecting documents, and ensuring the maintenance and cleanliness of the assigned vehicle. This position requires flexibility in planning routes and adherence to safety regulations, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the logistics unit in responding to urgent transportation needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Chauffeur will perform the following duties:
  • Drive office vehicles and ensure the safe transport of authorized personnel, as well as the delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items.
  • Welcome official personnel at the airport and assist with immigration and customs formalities as needed.
  • Conduct daily maintenance checks on the assigned vehicle, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, and arrange for repairs as necessary.
  • Maintain records of official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations in the event of an accident.
  • Perform other related tasks as required by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Essential qualifications include a secondary school education and a valid national driver's license. Desirable qualifications include training in automotive mechanics, which would be an asset. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of road safety, vehicle maintenance, and the ability to follow instructions and maps in the working language. Knowledge of first aid is also essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a secondary school diploma. A national driver's license is mandatory, and additional training in automotive mechanics is considered advantageous for this position.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience as a driver. Experience working with a United Nations agency or similar organization is desirable and will be considered an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in French is essential for this position. Practical knowledge of Swahili and other local languages is considered an asset, enhancing communication with local populations and stakeholders.
