Job Overview:
The consultant will serve as a coordinator for the High-level Working Group, providing both substantive and coordination support. This role is crucial in ensuring that the High-level Working Group can effectively monitor and respond to the economic challenges faced by African countries, particularly in light of recent global shocks such as the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical conflicts. The consultant will be responsible for analyzing global economic developments, drafting reform proposals, and facilitating high-level engagements with policymakers and development partners. This position requires a proactive approach to support the High-level Working Group's objectives and enhance its impact on the global financial architecture.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake a variety of responsibilities including: monitoring and analyzing global economic developments and their implications for African economies; drafting key reform proposals, policy briefs, and presentations for high-level engagements; providing technical input to ECA’s engagement in global economic governance platforms; coordinating meetings of the High-level Working Group; preparing progress reports and communication materials; and participating in missions to support the organization and engagement of the High-level Working Group. The consultant will also be responsible for ensuring smooth coordination with internal and external partners and recording all activities for program monitoring and reporting purposes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Economics or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in macroeconomic policy, economic research and analysis, and application of economic principles in development programs is required. Candidates should also have substantial experience with Bretton Woods Institutions or Development Finance Institutions, along with strong economic analytical and econometric modeling skills.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Economics or a related field is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree if accompanied by relevant experience. This educational background is essential for understanding complex economic issues and contributing effectively to the High-level Working Group's objectives.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in macroeconomic policy, economic research and analysis, and the application of economic principles in development programs. Candidates should have substantial experience working with Bretton Woods Institutions or Development Finance Institutions, which is critical for understanding the global financial architecture and its implications for African economies.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of French is desirable, as it can enhance communication and collaboration within the organization and with French-speaking stakeholders.
