Job Overview:
The consultant position is primarily focused on supporting the Education Section of UNESCO Bangkok, particularly in the Transformative Education portfolio. The role involves contributing to the implementation of the Climate Smart Education Systems Initiative (CSESI) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) activities under the SDG 4.7 framework. The consultant will be responsible for developing operational guidance materials, knowledge products, and communication-related deliverables that facilitate the integration of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Climate Change Education (CCE), and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) into educational planning and practices. This position requires a proactive approach to enable learners to become agents of change in addressing local and global challenges, including climate change and social issues. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government partners and educational institutions, to ensure effective implementation and alignment with UNESCO’s strategic objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: reviewing draft curriculum and learning materials, preparing analytical synthesis notes, consolidating outputs from stakeholder consultations, and developing monthly progress monitoring plans. The consultant will provide technical inputs to enhance teachers' professional development guidance materials, assess capacity development needs, and ensure alignment with UNESCO frameworks. Additionally, the consultant will prepare pilot testing plans, facilitate pilot activities, document feedback, and revise operational guidance materials based on peer reviews. The consultant will also be responsible for preparing communications articles, technical documentation, and consolidated reports summarizing the outcomes of the CSESI and GCED activities. Specific tasks include preparing concept notes and materials for GCED webinars and annual meetings, compiling inputs for reports, and drafting summary articles highlighting network experiences and achievements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in education, social sciences, communication, journalism, or related fields pertinent to international development. A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in education, policy planning, project management, or teacher development is required. Experience in developing and managing innovative programs, networks, and partnerships, particularly in the context of Sustainable Development, Greening Education, and Global Citizenship Education, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate excellent technical drafting and analytical synthesis skills, proficiency in MS Office applications, and strong interpersonal and communication abilities. The ability to work under pressure, manage multiple deliverables, and contribute effectively in a multicultural environment is essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in fields such as education, social sciences, communication, journalism, or other areas relevant to international development. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of educational systems and the integration of sustainable development principles into educational practices.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience. This experience should encompass work in education, policy planning, project management, or teacher professional development. Candidates with experience in developing and managing innovative educational programs, particularly those related to Sustainable Development Goals, Climate Change Education, and Global Citizenship Education, will be given preference. The ability to demonstrate a track record of successful project implementation and collaboration with diverse stakeholders is also important.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Candidates with additional language skills, particularly in languages relevant to the Asia-Pacific region, will be considered advantageous. Proficiency in other UN languages may also be beneficial, enhancing communication with a broader range of stakeholders.

  • The position is classified as Level 1 - Junior, and it is open to external candidates. The consultant will be based at the UNESCO Bangkok office and may be required to undertake official travel related to project implementation. All travel expenses will be covered according to UNESCO’s rules and regulations, including a Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) for travel away from the consultant's usual place of residence.
