Job Overview: The Project Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of Lebanon's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0, which is part of the country's commitment to the Paris Agreement. This position involves working closely with the Ministry of Environment to enhance the national climate governance framework and develop strategies for financial investment in climate initiatives. The Project Associate will be responsible for integrating gender considerations into climate policies and ensuring that the NDC process aligns with national gender equality commitments. The role requires a proactive approach to research, analysis, and collaboration with various stakeholders, including civil society and women's rights organizations, to ensure that climate policies are inclusive and effective. The Project Associate will also assist in monitoring and reporting on the progress of gender-sensitive initiatives within the project, contributing to the overall success of Lebanon's climate action efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Associate will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Providing gender research and analysis support by reviewing and updating the project's Gender Action Plan, monitoring its implementation, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
Assisting in the assessment of gender-sensitive plans and contributing to climate vulnerability analyses from a gender perspective.
Collaborating with Monitoring and Evaluation Officers to track gender outcomes and indicators through the project's results framework.
Supporting climate policy development by mapping existing policies and legislation related to climate action, ensuring alignment with gender considerations.
Engaging with stakeholders to ensure ownership of climate policies and producing policy briefs for decision-makers.
Participating in training and capacity-building activities, disseminating knowledge and lessons learned, and contributing to knowledge networks.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Project Manager to ensure the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of secondary education, with a university degree (Bachelor's) in fields such as Policy Development, Gender Studies, Environmental Science, Political Science, or International Relations being preferred. Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications is required, along with experience in gender-responsive capacity building. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and a commitment to gender equality and climate action.
Educational Background: While a secondary education is required, a university degree in relevant fields such as Policy Development, Gender Studies, Environmental Science, Political Science, or International Relations will be given due consideration. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of climate change policy and gender integration.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in climate change policy-related tasks for candidates with a secondary education, or 3 years of experience for those with a Bachelor's degree. This experience should include progressive responsibilities in similar roles, particularly within the context of Lebanon's climate policies and gender considerations.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as effective communication in both languages is essential for engaging with stakeholders and producing reports. Knowledge of French is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to work in a multilingual environment and collaborate with diverse partners.
